I'm of the opinion that splitting the population was detrimental to the growth of the game. Player interactions are the most meaningful experiences that you can have in a game and diluting the population takes away critical exchanges that need to occur. The concepts that went into the server splits were sound but they never bore fruit -- primarily the ability to eventually be able to transfer between servers. If the idea could be implemented in its totality then it'd be grand. As it appeared in Salem, the idea just didn't float.

salem launched extra servers to accomodate huge influx of testers, which was really bad since they didnt stick around.

I think what synth is talking about, and something I would advocate, is more like world 6 of hnh would still be running right now. and world 5 only got shut down when world 7 started. but maybe more frequent cycles ;) this would mean people like me who only really enjoy haven when world is fresh would have a reason to come back every year.

but tbh Id rather the game mechanics be changed in such a way to make new servers not required to make game fun again (regrowth of trees/res, claim upkeep, pherhaps map extents over time).

Yeah, that's the exact concept I'm against because it needlessly splits the server population without any added benefit and goes against the idea of a permanent world, which is the ideal of Haven.

To be completely honest I'm just trying to think up reasonable ways to implement new worlds. I always have the most fun when I can pioneer a newly generated world and have a chance at being at the top of the competition. If they have a permanent, single world there is logically no chance for someone who starts later on to become stronger than current competition because of the capless character growth system. Resources also slowly become completely secured as the world goes on, reducing or eliminating chances of finding a valuable node for your own.

Both of your first two claims are untrue but that's not the point. What you want is the illusion of being able to be on top. I think that's worth chewing on a bit but it's a complex issue as you're trying to develop a very scripted experience in a game that otherwise doesn't purposefully script experiences.

Realistically, if you don't have a q90+ clay node, a few characters with murder, and a brickwalled city by Day 3 then you're not even in the running for being on top. I think some of the better players even have these things by Day 2 through some serious micromanagement. It's a grueling experience and often involves as many no-lifers as you can find playing 24/7 until operations are secured. That's not what you're after though. You don't want to feel pressured like that because no one does, it's miserable. Hrm, it's difficult to encapsulate the early game experience in words even after you've lived through it a few times. Definitely something to chew on for a bit because it is a rich feeling to capture.

Since new way of detecting nodes (surv hard cap) you will need more time to find q90 clay (even with node-q approximation you will need at least 40-50 surv). I think you will be able to start finding it at day 2. Also BW is useless at first 2 weeks or even a month (depends on what goals factions have at start). Murder is not necessary too, you can kill anyone with theft and leeches :)

But i love the first months after wipe because only this time shows the true skill of player. Hnh is not only a game about growing carrot, but also (and mostly) about efficiency, logistics, time-planning, micro and macro management. To be honest you don't need top resources to be top faction. You just need to have top players.

You can't ram brickwall until you have people with enough STR. Ramming palisade requires only 4 people with 10 STR.

Ramming palisade of small village with active players? Please, this dreams will never come true. Only palibasher can break your walls.

People have built offensive palisades from cornerpost placed outside wievrange from wall that creates safe enclosure to build and use ram.

You can simply repair wall endlessly while shooting those guys who trying to ram you. Or just detect them while they build pali pocket and block everything with alts. Also you can abuse pclaim health craim removal. Also....
There is so much defence techniques, no chance for poor attackers to success.
