They knew what they were buying before they bought it. Atleast the game is still online.

The funniest thing is they even got everything they bought before wipe. Honestly, the part of Salem community, which had no Haven experience is mostly a bunch of ungrateful whiners.

Yeah, because devs should work for free for the pleasure of 15 year-olds since creating a game is so easy and fun :)

People will always complain. They complain even when things are free, as we see here daily on the forum. In my experience non-monetized games always die because devs either lose motivation or have pressing needs from RL. FFS, if I can choose between buying two big macs or getting a permanent haven account I'd take the latter without blinking and shup up.

Then again: crowdfunding.

Ya, what many little crybaby's dont understand is that nothing in life is free. You cant expect a free game to be perfect. Which is why I would gladly pay for haven. Its already the best game, if they were getting money for it, it would actually be able to get updates and stuff.

It needs the balance though. The game needs to be makign money without it destroyign the game. Like battlefield play4free is the worst game ever. If you want anythign that doesnt suck, you have to buy it for cash...

But the clothing skin idea is a good idea. The concept of my crappy idea though was to also combat bots

Oh yeah, dat crazy, stable and promissing income from 500 players. With such a small playerbase game won't be profitable even with ads, shiny items and monthly payment. Have any suggestions of making this game popular without fucking it up completely, mister experienced game designer? Also don't forget the game was in a test stage for 4 years, so it's unlikely hafen will grow to the next stage in a month.

And Bob, you can already pay for Haven, there is a button for that. Or do you need to be pressured to pay for not free stuff?

Donations rarely bring in very much. If you want a donation button to even be worthwhile you've got to have constant pledge drives. I have no idea how Toady_One is able to keep even a small income through just donations but he does it, so good for him. That said, that motto just doesn't work for Haven. Even at the peak points in Haven's history the donation button has accrued cobwebs.

The idea isn't to make JLo instantly rich with a few shiny hats in-game, it's to provide the devs with capitalist incentive to produce for the game. It's a lot easier to decide to work on something when you're seeing some income from it.

And, though this is entirely just my opinion, given what we've all already gotten out of the game, I wouldn't mind them making a bit of money for themselves from this venture. You can be bitter and hate Haven and JLo as much as you want but they've worked hard on something that has given a lot of people a lot of fun. They should be able to walk out of that with something.

Most of you guys haven't been around long enough to remember the history of Haven anymore but the devs actually have very consistently worked to produce updates and to experiment on making the world better. What changed? Salem. They had a commercial venture with a company that paid them and so they worked on the paid project. Now that they can decide where their time can go, I am confident that they are willing and able to work on a game on a consistent basis.

+1

Not many people are going to just donate. But even if they get a little crap out of it, then they would. And then the little bit of money Jorb and Loftar get will act as their little reward for making an epic game. And then they will work on it more. and the game will get updates, and progress.

Or we can do it the Grapefruit way, and have them get nothing from the game, barely update it, and have it stay at 300 or less players online.

Did you hear me mentioning Salem? They do get some money from it's shiny items and yet they temporarily abandoned it to get back to Haven. I did not say they never should/can/will monetize Haven, I said it would be not the smartest move in near future and definitely not a way to fight botters. As long as there is possibility of wipe, charging money=taking too much obligations. And in my opinion subscription doesn't suit whole concept of HnH, shiny items is the best solution, if you ask me. Also an interesting fact: according to statistics in music industry free download+donate button brings musicians pretty much same amount of income as selling their album. Obviously it is not exactly the same for games though. Another interesting fact: some people claimed to donate thousands (but only J&L can know the truth), 1000=200 months 5$ each=16,7years of playing, while Bob the cat plays for 2-3 months each world max. And the last less interesting fact: I think Bob should show a screenshot of donation now that he knows about the button or shut the fuck up, if he doesn't want to be known as hypocrite faggot.

I would pay for a world reset.
I've learned a lot in this World.
But again .. it's probably to much job for them. without knowing how much I would throw.
