The server fills up, crashes daily, more new guys try and play, people start getting ticked about the unstable server and leave, leaving the population at right around the max for the server. 5 months later we get a server upgrade, only to begin the process all over again. Within days of a new server, the population doubles, maxing out the new one

thus you can expect H&H to constantly be on a server to small for its demand.
Insightful observation. In a way, the game has become a victim of its own success.
The bottom line is that running an MMO like H&H takes considerable resources, and the more complex the game becomes, and the more players who subscribe, the more computing power and bandwidth will be required. Long term, a cash flow strategy will need to be implemented. I'd personally have no problem paying a monthly fee to play a game as good as this (even in alpha); not WoW prices mind you, but $5 per month or so seems entirely reasonable if the stability issues can be resolved. In the short term, I think the webmaster could do a better job of soliciting donations. Apply some basic human psychology: people want to see where their money is going. How about a fund-raising progress bar on the homepage, with a clear indication of what will be purchased when the goal has been reached? Additionally, could H&H could be made into crippleware such that an account can only log in for more than 5 hours per day after they've donated? I'm aware that there's a donation button on the homepage already, but I'm reluctant to donate without some sort of incentive and I'll bet most people are in the same boat. Let us know what will be done with our money, give us some reason and recognition for giving, and we will. At least I will.
