Have you made the game client run fully oblivious of global coordinates then (so that it is aware only of the local coords)? Otherwise, if the client has any kind of access to a global coord or other indicator of his whereabouts, the more programmatically inclined will immediately retrieve that information to locate themselves and their friends, thus creating an unfair advantage.

the current client already does that. it's safe to assume the new one will too

Having friends is not an unfair advantage, spamming alts is.
5 people working together should obviously progress quicker than one person on his own.
Whether those people meet ingame or have met outside the game, does it really matter?

So I spawn alone, meet 2 nice persons.
As you cant have alts, each chose to specialize in one field : one farmer, one crafter and one hunter/miner.
Nice comunity.
6 month after, our farmer die to a boar and rage quit.
What are we suppose to do ?
Eating lvl 3 carrots hoping for a nice wanderer ?
Or you are not suppose to specialize, so what the point of grouping?
And what the point of improving skills, lets just have levels : gain 1 lvl= every skill get +1 ?

you'll have to make little change to rabbits, like you cant store them in your bag for futur kill, they could just been killed like cows and cheeps by right clik and "kill".

Two issues with that:
1) Completely doesn't fit the theme of the game and breaks the immersion. You kill 3 rabbits to teleport. What?
2) If you think killing 3 rabbits in 1h is something a bot would struggle with, you underestimate them vastly.

I vaguely remember some sort of web mapping application where you could upload your map data to update the global map. How would that be possible without knowing which part of the world your map represents (ergo: the global position was available somewhere)?

1) Incorrect. You can have alts. You just can't have INSTANT ON DEMAND alts.
2) Well at this point, I guess yes. But you could have thought about:
- Prepping your players/characters for more than one skill/task.
- Looked for additional players in advanced.
- Depending on available world map data, ordering and shipping home some alts in advanced.

*Imagine some alt flood's at world(8) start, fueled by the hope some land close by*

You can have alts and since it's been 6 months from start, map will be widely known and it won't be a problem to spend some time and bring one to your place.

In general the same way you would solve a jigsaw puzzle.

So my proposition of rabbits (or whatever easy to see but rare gathering thing) you have to go outside and put some time to find (so not in combat), that allow to TP a freind/alt at the place you find the device ( so not in your sieged village).
