I think there was a miscommunication here. I wasn't saying swords have penetration, just that they do enough damage to overcome armor. Tit for tat, every type of weapon did more damage than armor defended.

Well you need huge amounts of strength to overcome "modern" armor with a high quality soldier's sword, not to mention some people have 1000 health so, even if you could hit him while he has 0 defense (which rarely happens), you'd need to do like 3000 damage with a soldier's sword to knock him out. I don't know any formulas or base damages but I'm sure that requires too much strength for anything other than b12 to be useful. So no, swords don't do shit.

let's all agree that haven sucks as is and combat is stupid
unique, but stupid under current circumstances

this game needs a big bandaid
