If you give me a virgin I'll sacrifice it.
Or the virginity, does that count as well? Meh

No, all the software already works properly on a 64-bit system, so it is really "just" a matter of the OS; only that it isn't really "just". Installing a new operating system would mean that I'd have to recreate the whole development environment, and I'm not too keen on doing that if I don't really have to. And hopefully I won't have to.

Jorb and I have been eying a hosted server on a better connection anyway, which happens to have a 64-bit processor as well (as would be weird if it didn't). Hopefully, it won't be too long before we can get our hands on it, and then I can just leave the server at Jorb's place as it is. FYI, the hosting company we have in mind is OVH.

Very interesting. Would we still run into any of those other caps that were you concern when considering 1and1 long ago? (The one that was a serverside code thing and whatnot)?

Will you use the server at Jorb's place for something else cool when/if that happens? 8-)

If you refer to the cumulative bandwidth limit, I think it will not be a problem, because OVH has a far more generous such limit. The problem, if anything, might be that moving the bottleneck away from the bandwidth will likely place it on the CPU instead, sooner or later (given enough players, obviously). If or when that happens, I'll probably have to introduce a login queue. :(

We'll obviously go on using it for development. :) It will most likely take the place of my own server for running temporary test servers.

Oh great and mighty Lothar, protector of our haven away from home, light of the digital hearth that feeds us and lights our hearts. Be it thy will, may the world we have come to know and love return from the dark depths of 'Server Crash'. Thy hearthlings come, thy will be done, in the net as it is in Haven.

RAMEN!
