I'm not having any problems one hitting level one non-domestic-able animals with a QL44 axe, 49 melee and 84 strength.

Ah, I was sparring with a few people to get these results, I'll go rampage on small woodland creatures now to test things.

In the reset, will we be able to customize our characters appearance so they don't all look like clones from a bad movie?

Does armor work the same as before? It seems like I have 65/124 armor, but I lost about 15 HHP fighting an ant somehow.

Also, it seems like critters get their combat and defense meters back a lot quicker then I do. If I spam "dash" for my defense meter, their defense meter raises faster and on top of that they have their attack ready again. Even if I spam "jump" it barely fills my attack meter faster then their defense, and on top of that my defense meter doesn't really move at all, so I just get smashed.

I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing. If I try to fill my combat meter faster then the animals defense meter, I just eat a ton of damage. If I keep trying to raise my defense meter to counter their combat meter, I only take a small amount of damage, but have no offense at all.

Before, my guy with 30 unarmed combat, 25 marksmanship(10q arrows) and each piece of leather armor + boar helm could kill level 7-8 foxes with only taking armor damage. Now I get roflstomped.

However, of course cheats will still be cheats and care bears will still be care bears and experienced players will still be experienced players who know how to build up stats fast.

The devs are trying to balance between it being hopeless to oppose the player killers, and the threat of player killers being a piddling irrelevance. We will know how well the reset works in another couple of months once we see what happens then.

Yes, I tried to explain it to some village members as such to make them feel better about the reset. What worried me was tehe fact the mechanic still remained to allow the "sit at vending stands killing everyone" griefers. Granted without the "bear from boats" and all the other mechanics and cheats that allowed the greifers to get where they were so fast, they could (with a whole lot more tesious work) get to the same place in time. However perhaps this will be a bit too boring for most griefers and some of the problem will be alleviated. Perhaps this will alow a bit more community policing on the few that do manage to get high enough to stop the use of game mechanics such as trading(Vending) useless griefing. As I had said, I do like the idea of a reset to remove all the cheat griefers work they have done. As you say, we can only watch and see if some of the changes deters the grefing and allows the game to be a bit more general fun without so much worry.

You know I kinda take offense to this. WV rather proved why the test server was a major fail. This is because it was mostly based on data of the real world. Logging in gave intel to enemies about your characater. COmbined with wiping the map itself caused any accounts that did exist on it to be unable to have any equipment worth testing.

If you want 'test' server it should BE that. Premade eq, arbitrary setting of stats. etc. Don't try and blame player apathy when you've set up a game to be so political and intel sensitive that people are too paranoid to use anything that can jeopardize that.

Not to mention that the combat system had major flaws and was by far not done yet.

i welcome the mapreset but i wish i hadnt read about it here, my motivation to play till its coming is totally gone, would have been better to be just out of nowhere (just like real life, you know youre gonna die but you dont want to hear the date). is there any chance the mapreset might come sooner?

Monday might be pushing it but I wouldn't mind the reset sooner. :)
