This game is just getting too popular. Too many players at once and the server just can't take it.

One of them actually was. It's been fixed now. :)

It's just the usual VM shortage problem, which will be fixed whenever we get a 64-bit server. As mentioned previously, check the front page for current memory usage (the crash-o-meter).

It would be great if I had some tool to find out what consumes the most memory.

Lacking that, I'm actually considering clearing a lot of those unused construction signs, if only just to see how much memory they contribute. The only problem would be trying to figure out which can be safely cleared.

Just nuke all fence and fire signs. Even if they were used for their intended purpose rather than trapping, it's an acceptable loss.

Do you have a check for how long construction time is for each object?

If so, Decay/clearing objects based on their construction time may be a viable alternative - that is, if houses (for example) actually do take that long to construct, I can't remember.

You could also remove all tree stumps, I doubt anyone would find that tragic.
