One big reason why I really did not like salem is because I introduced a friend to the game and got him really hyped to play it, but when I found out that we couldn't play together until I get a claim up, so I had to play by myself for a week, but by the time I got it, he didn't want to play it anymore :l

The best solution for hafen would probably be to allow party spawns.

Yeah, it's ok to deny spawning onto an established player, but you should at least allow freshly made new players to play together.

So no heath secrets, no teleportation except along "formal roads". Does this mean no year thing either? (Please please please)

I'm not happy about teleportation being a thing still, but this is much better than what we had. One step closer to perfect. Just gotta do away with road teleportation next ;)

Thinking about it though, if we have fast travel (horses) why do we need teleportation at all?

Alternately, bring back charter stones.

Bring back charter stones, Have you played with charter stones? Bad call, they just get walled in, or camped for the fuck of it.

Yes, they were the backbone of how I built my villages. They do require some care on the part of the village creator. Part of the trick is to only leave them on if someone is attending them. My villagers took shifts doing welcome chair duty.

Just leaving then on was a foolish stupid thing to do, and was asking for trouble. They were a resource to be used carefully, those who fell be foul of them simply weren't thinking the benefits and hazards through.

Properly used they serve as an excellent way to introduce new players to the game and build community.

i like this idea. maybe hearthfires could be spawnable for a brief period or some other mechanic could be introduced to allow a group to spawn together.

Basically, when you click the ladder, You can set a hearth secret that allows new characters to spawn on your hearthfire for ONE HOUR.
Hearth secret is only usable by new chars, for new chars. so no kenning through it.

easy, boom, done. Everyone is happy.
