Game Development: Salem & Haven

Postby jorb » Fri Jan 21, 2011 4:17 am

... so, having toasted to the remaining items on my welcome list -- and after having talked to journalists for the better part of the day -- we felt it was about time to communicate a bit about the present goings on.

So what is going on?

As some of you may have noticed, we've been working on a project for the past four months that we have kept somewhat quiet about...

Long story short: For the past for year or so, I've been employed at the internal development team of Paradox Interactive (Working as an event scripter on Victoria 2, among others, Brother Bean on dem Paradox forums). A couple of months ago H&H got some internal attention over at the office, and after some discussions with the company bigwig(s) we arrived at the conclusion that we should build a game together. Or... that they should finance me and loftar's building of a new game for them, rather. Ipso facto, Salem.

What does this mean for Haven?

Absolutely nothing. Development on Haven has continued, continues and will continue as per usual, although with the less than weekly updates that you have witnessed for the past four months or so. As soon as Salem is released, we intend to bring the development of Haven back up to normal speed.

What is Salem?

Salem is a new take on a concept that should be familiar to y'all. Freeform building MMO with permanent death, yadiyadi, except set in colonial New England this time. :)

We're at the Paradox convention in NYC right now, and I'm drunk and tired. We'll have more info for you when we get back to civilization and sound humors. For now, the message is:

Salem is awesome.
Haven is not Salem.

In no way, shape or form have we, or would we ever abandon this our most beloved game. It's business as usual around here, except the family is expecting a new child.

We're going 3d with Salem, btw. :)

Tired, drunk, had a scientologist hand me a note advertising free "scientometric" reading on Longacre Square yesterday. Am tired. Loved the Mario and Luigi picture. Love you. Will be back in Sweden in a couple of days. More in depth info then.

Reason: updated
‎"There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved."

replacing day-night cycle with "civilization vs darkness" sounds interesting

Salem seems to be pretty cool. But my question is, what do we have to pay for it?

Great to hear that Haven will still be worked on, and I wish you the best of luck with Salem and can't wait to try it out.

It is free to play... read about it a little.

Also, I am really fucking stoked. That's all I have to say.

Edit: I forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS.

I bet a lot of us will take some time to check it out! :D

You think I haven't read about it? Can you link me to where it says it will be F2P?
