I have heard of nginx previously, so I went to check it out, read that "nginx is a lightweight, high-performance Web server/reverse proxy and e-mail (IMAP/POP3) proxy", smelled bloat and summarily ignored it. ;)

As for ashd, I wrote it primarily for my own site, but running it on the Haven server is excellent stress testing, so I'm enjoying the ride so far.

If it turns out not to work well, I think I'll switch to lighttpd rather than to nginx. At least it seems to be an HTTP server and nothing more. ;)

Hehe, still enjoying the ride. :)

It just ran out of filedescriptors, so I'll be adding epoll support and it'll be back soon. Web serving is back on Apache for now. :)

Edit: Back again.

Yes I agree. Browsing the forum, particularly the My Posts search, and opening up all the recently changed topics, took about... well with 10 topics it took about 5 seconds TOTAL to load all of them after a quick spat of ctrl+clicking. Beautiful. Loving it! Main page sometimes still a bit laggy to bring up on a refresh for server status, but not much to be done about that.

You won't be saying that in a week or two when you realize how many abandoned homes there are. A 30 second boat ride south of my village literally bring you to the ghetto. There's abandoned claims everywhere with the occasional newb taking things and raiders patrolling. It reminds me of Detroit.

Works perfect! Now find something same to fix game-lag

As for nginx-lighttpd - they are basically same in functionality, but lighttpd is semi-dead for some years already, while nginx is alive and kicking. By replacing lighttpd with nginx for our portal (massive DE digital distribution service) solved some nasty problems and generally lowered load. So from this pair nginx is clear winner.

Getting a lot of zeros in the past hour. That is, a blank page with nothing but "0" (sans quotes) in the top left corner. Refreshing fixes it, but it'd kinda annoying.

They're really functionally the same in terms of bloat. Both are rather baseline, especially in comparison to Apache. I would do a bit more research before dismissing Nginx and going with Lighttpd, especially since most comparisons done give Nginx the edge in performance and footprint.

But ashd looks interesting, hopefully it'll work out fine :)

That sounds weird. Is it the forum specifically that is bugging out, or does it happen elsewhere?

Perhaps. Right now it doesn't seem to be necessary at all though, luckily. :)

Forum only, but then again I haven't really opened the other pages that much. It happens maybe once in 50-100 times I try to open a page.
