I'm starting to wonder a bit about that now myself.

I managed to write ONE local map to a regional map, but other maps that I tried to copy onto it just don't appear.

wudafuxup?
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I found four on one plain in a very short time. They're a small blue flower.

Its possible that they were there, and someone else already picked them.
They're not exactly common, I've found as many as 6 and as little as 1 on the same grassland.

Did you make the local maps (or any part of them) before I wrote that the minimaps were ready? If so, you need to remake them, as mentioned earlier. No need to thank me. :)

please do not implement stuff who is not ready yet. so you get more and more who need a fix..

You're right Voodoodog, they should never have implemented item usage. It was a terrible design choice. Items should only be used for crafting ever.
