Game Development: Bling & Beer Brawl

Postby jorb » Sat Oct 03, 2009 7:09 am

We've been developing tonight, and here's what's new.

Major Change, Perception and quality: You can now only determine the quality of items up to the level of your perception times 2. Example: James has 14 perception, the Bear Cape has Q 35, the Carrot Cake has Q 23. The Carrot Cake will display as being Q23, but the Bear Cape will only show up as being "28+" (if it shows up as 16 million, update your client).

Metal subdivision: Metal now exists in nugget size bits as well as in bar form. Split a bar into nine nuggets in a metal crucible. Melt a bar of metal from ten nuggets, using the same. Stacks of exactly 11 coins melt into a nugget if placed in a finery forge. Q on forge and crucible are irrelevant in these processes.

Cape slot: There is now a dedicated slot for capes. Bear Capes now usable.

Continuous crafting: When an item has been crafted, the player character will attempt to craft the same thing again. He will continue to do so until he can't. While this is useful most of the time you might want to watch out when crafting hammers, swords, armor or other things of that nature. Consider this a test, we might revert this change.

Drunkenness Drinking alcohol will now activate a series of status effects on your character, inspired by this chart. The first two steps are enjoyable, but it quickly goes downhill from there. For now you'll only get negative stat modifiers. For now.

New Items, Accessories:

Silver for the Ferryman: If you wear this ring when you drown, you will lose the ring. On the other hand, you'll keep your life. Might be a nice trade-off?

Clothier's Thimble: Small boosts to Dexterity and Sewing.

Forge Ring: Decent boosts to Strength and Smithing.

Merchant's ring: Small boosts to all Basic Attributes.

Occult Ring: Sizable boosts to Psyche and Intelligence.

Dawn Chain: +1 Day Personal Belief, Boost to Exploration.

Dusk Chain: +1 Night Personal Belief, Boost to Stealth.

Family Heirloom: +2 Tradition Personal Belief while worn.

Thane's Ring: Great boosts to Strength, Charisma, Agility and Melee Combat.

Spectacles: Decent boost to perception.

Monocle: Now craftable by others than Delamore. Good boost to Perception.

Also, a bronze plate armor. Enjoy.

Nice to see silver and gold become useful. I'm sure the anti-drowning ring will be a big seller.

how do you get rid of the drunken debuff? Does it decrease over time?

Edit: Question appears to have answered itself, and quickly. Took about 3 minutes for the effect of .2l of beer to wear off.

"Silver for the Ferryman: If you wear this ring when you drown, you will lose the ring. On the other hand, you'll keep your life. Might be a nice trade-off?"

Swimming is an issue only for low stat characters and newbies, your solution fixes it for neither of those as it uses a rare material. It just makes swimming for the powerful even easier.

Trade is currently suffering and this only makes it worse, the biggest thing in trade has been lowbies trading bulk with higher ups for good QL stuff. Everyone should be able to see the QL of something regardless of their stats.

"Family Heirloom: +2 Tradition Personal Belief while worn."

Tradition/Change is a big thing now, I don't think there should be objects that change the bar, really I don't think there should be objects that change any bar but this is the biggest one. It will basically mean that any combat is done wearing one and put everyone effectively at +2 to trad any time they are risking death.

"Monocle: Now craftable by others than Delamore. Good boost to Perception."

Not cool.

The cape change and alot of the other smaller stuff is nice, I wanted the cape change for so long. Also check your PM, just because your mother doesn't like my motorcycle doesn't mean you can't ride with me baby.

Does this mean that a nugget makes 10 coins?

Stacks of exactly 11 coins melt into a nugget if placed in a finery forge.

is awesome?

I'd rather not keep perception so useless, and that seems like a perfectly good use for it <.<

What we do need now are more balanced low level foods, that way newbies don't get stuck with constitution and intelligence gains <.<
