Yeah, lot of overreactions in this thread. Ancestors are only a bonus to ease the pain of death, not something you need to play.

People are treating it as mandatory because OOH SHINY NEW THING

As long as it stops people from going...
'Ah shit I died... Full change too...'

'DEVS GIVE ME BACK MY CHARACTER OR I WILL QUIT'

As per what happened with the Swimming incident...

The thing to understand here is that some people actually died BEFORE it was made clear that swimming was incredibly super dangerous. Sure, a lot of people whine even though they died after the swimming toggle and everything, but not everyone had that kind of luxury.

it was made clear several times that swimming was dangerous before the fact - however, the devs didnt go into specifics, and certainly never mentioned that characters with low enough constitution would instantly die the moment they set foot in deep water

obscuring certain things from your testers is really stupid

Saying we obscured it is saying we deliberately tried to keep the mechanics unknown to players. We've never done that.

It apparently kicks into effect when you actually move a bar.

It actually looks alot like the
roman shrines kept in their
houses to pray to their ancestors

They'd place food and drink
there and had it in the corner
of their room.

I think it's beastly even if that's
just a coincidence!
