Tattoos!

Even if these were purely cosmetic I think they'd be a smashing hit.

they could have some non-cosmetic uses too however like stat boosts I guess, that seems in line with hearth magic as far as I can tell though is perhaps closer to aboriginal stuff.

As long as they displayed on the character model rather than just on the equips screen then I also think that even if purely cosmetic they'd be great, however who walks around in the nude once you've got Armour and robes... apart from while wandering the village, cock flapping gracefully in the wind, so maybe they would require being on show to get their benefits, it would add a kind of beserker feel to them, you get stat boosts, but can't wear any armour as a trade off, perhaps a bit of a large change but cool nonetheless
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

And then we'll have a thousand Barnaby Joneses running around (for those that don't know what I'm referring to, look up the Adult Swim series Frisky Dingo and the one of the main characters when he got tattooed).

With the tattoo ink and tool in your hand, you right click your character and it brings up options for Head - R. Arm - L. Arm - Chest - Back - L. Leg - R. Leg. When a choice is made it opens a new window, a flesh-colored canvas of sorts. You can doodle on the canvas however you like, but the cursor will shake depending on how low/high your dexterity is. You should also be able to upload an image to act like tracing paper so you can outline/fill in manually what you want, however be warned: do not place ink to skin unless you are absolutely sure of your skill because every mark is permanent.
