Lol. My concern was for the new player, not the town. If they get trapped in a walled area and lose their buff, they are stuck =/

Well I for one think this update is pretty nifty. Now players can start in other towns and see more of the game. Also, for everyone complaining about their location being discovered, you don't "have to" build a charter stone. This is for towns who would like to see more activity, meet new players who usually don't even play for 5min when they arrived in RoB, and what have you.

Big towns:
Chernobyl: Recruits from SA forums
Wayneville: Group of friends from German poker forum
Bottleneck alliance: Bay12 forums
Wurm city: Wurmonline forums
Facepunch city (Gone now): Facepunch forums

Cakeport: Not forum
Xanadu: Not forum
Brodgar: Not forum

You notice how a whole load of big cities almost completely rely on outside game recruitment?

Most of the towns in this game recruit from outside forums. Wayneville, Bottleneck, Chernobyl, Asgard, the list goes on. Every one of them in the boondocks, they are forced to build charter stones. It's not reasonable to ask that new players actually travel to them on foot.

About the only two that dont are Cakeport and Xanadu.

So copy CoB and have a "starter" village with a charterstone, and after people have lived there for a while, permit them access to your non-charterstone cities. Once you swear them in, they can still port to the distant city. They dont have to take any 2-hour boat rides.

I'm going to attempt to clearly spell out what I think most of the concerns here are:

1. Bringing new players to the game from outside (via forum or word of mouth) means having them spawn at someone else's village and walk to yours if you don't want to build a charter stone. That's counter-intuitive.
2. New players could potentially become stranded in the middle of level X wilderness if the village they choose doesn't accept them and they lose their buff before switching.
3. Any jerk can just lock new players in with a charter stone and lots of goodies that entice them to lose their buff, thus trapping them in a prison.

I'm sure there are more, but these seem to be the most obvious and disturbing effects of this update.

Edit: The ability to start from a village is a good idea. The fact that it is mandatory is not, in my opinion. It is essential to have the option of a central spawn point remain available.

Requirements for being goons:
Well you wall your town up alot to keep people out
Then you keep a few people with access to an account that can invite people
Then you build ANOTHER TOWN which has to always have people active to teach the newbies coming in
You need to wall around a crossroad here as deep as your town is, because it would make your town unsafe if it wasn't walled
Then you need tons of agility food (while fucking the newbies stats unless you got tons of every other type for balance) so you can get them to the next town
You also need the magical ability to keep them from quitting during this process
