Mini-feature: Chat changes

Postby loftar » Sat Dec 05, 2009 9:38 pm

Just a headsup: The chat bubble chat has now moved to the lower UI (to the pane called "Area Chat"). Entering text there will make it both display as a normal speech bubble, and display in the Area Chat pane of all others who could see the speech bubble. You can enter longer text now, but for long messages, only part of it will show up in the speech bubble (the rest will still show in the chat pane).

Also, if you're using the latest client, unread chat message will highlight their corresponding "tab buttons", and if the UI is folded down, the "fold up arrow" will be glowing in an appropriate color.

Interesting update. Nice addition, makes talking a whole lot easier.

Why did you say that you would want to update your client in the server message if I may ask?

Because without updating it, you won't be getting the message notification effect.

EDIT: I think you lose the ability to focus the area chat with Ctrl+S as well, if you don't have the client updated.

Hehe. I was having a little fun with the fact my speech bubbles could be longer than they were before. Apparently I made it a little too long and got a haven error. :(

I am genuinely curious why when implementing this you didn't bother to fix the too long text crash bug. The new chat changes makes it so much more griefable.

Because it's kind of hard, as I've noted in countless other threads. And this doesn't really make it that much more griefable; you could always just PM people with crasher lines.

But wouldn't it be easier to take out 5 people at once than slowly pick them off with PMs? :P

Actually, that is since previously. We looked back at it and thought 10 base FEPs seemed so very much in retrospect.
