Forum Management: A Plea for Moderation

I know we're all supposed to hate popfor but I really can't see any reason for such a ban based on this: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28057

I've seen much more offensive, vitriolic hate speech from certain *ahem* unnamed posters on an extremely regular basis, and not even a warning has been issued as such.

I'm all for cleaning up the forums and generally it feels kind of embarrassing the amount of stuff that's left unreproved around here compared to other similar forums. It just seems like a weird place to start when there's much more appalling things going on all around.

he got banned for being a stupid/unfunny troll, and it was his third ban (and he's had plenty of warnings before), so i made it for a month, then he posted on an alt like 5 minutes later about how i didn't ban all his alts so i permabanned all his alts and ipbanned him for the same duration as the original ban.

i read like, 5% of the forum or less these days so if there's worse stuff, report it.

hmm, not that i'm an advocate of either word, but using them isn't against the rules per se, at least in my interpretation. hate speech is considered trolling, but trolling isn't bannable in and of itself. shitty trolling is bannable, and trolling that derails otherwise interesting threads is bannable, and i guess if you just went around saying nigger faggot in every post it would fall under "excessive".

but anyway, popfor wasn't banned for "hate speech" by any stretch of the imagination.

And honestly, the fact that vocabulary such as that is allowed and tolerated around here is simply embarrassing. I'm not a prude by any sense of the imagination but stuff like that is just ugly and really has no place in modern society, online or otherwise.

If you're going to be laissez-faire about stuff that's your decision, but to ban someone for generic trolling (which didn't really derail any thread) while allowing something infinitely more objectionable seems questionable.

Who made you the adjudicator of whats abhorrent or not? I was under the impression that Jorb values free speech above all else as he allows Swastikas and other Nazi imagery to be paved into the ground in the game, I highly doubt he minds a word who's use is supposedly racist and yet the race it's used against often calls each other by said term. In short? don't like the forums here? Fuck of to the Salem forum where people get banned for questioning the validity of others statements....

I bet I could find 100's of things that you yourself have said objectionable but no one likes a little prick hall monitor and frankly, even though you're useless douche nozzel, I support your right to be one.....

It broke down to him being painfully annoying. He invaded every thread he possibly could to attempt to derail it. He was frustrating to handle and skirted the rules constantly. He has a really poor history and he has left a lot of negative feelings in mods. There is a point where someone has pushed too many small things too far and has run out of floor to stand on. Yes, any individual instance of his posting wasn't so bad that it deserved to be banned but overall he was a acting as a terrible member of the community.

Please don't ask me to pull up the examples of this as he has so many goddamn alt accounts to sift through. Not that you cannot find plenty on his main account but there is substantially more.

like i said before, if you feel something is objectionable, use the report button when you see it, we're not omniscient and even if we were, i for one don't want to get all up in a shit about people saying nigger faggot. do you think we should ban everyone that says stuff like that? to what end?

Forum organization suggestion:

Could we get announcements strictly for dev posts and then have a temporary associated discussion thread in the Inn that the mods can fully mod? After trying to read through the most recent thread from loftar, I am just completely pissed at all the trash comments (uselesss chatter, off topic posts, etc.) in it that, in reality, should be a candidate for immediate deletion.
