Server Downtime: Near Death Experience

Postby jorb » Sun May 31, 2009 2:19 am

Our server (A trusty old pentium 450mhz with a whopping 384 megs of RAM) had the hickup of death tonight, while running some backup routines, and nearly kicked the can. For a horrendous few minutes we suspected hard drive failure, but an early morning rescue operation has brought the systems back online. The server is well now, and the backup routines have been modified.

Before this, there were no backups of user, character or forum data. Now, there are. The recent increase in numbers of users, by orders of magnitude, we've been experiencing since being mentioned on, among others http://www.indiegames.com, http://www.tigsource.com and, last but not least, http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=36366.240, has meant quite a few new issues for us. We're happy to deal with those issues.

All is well. For now.

glad you're not feeling too overwhelmed. I found you via tigsource and I'm glad the bay12games crowd has noticed you as well. Your sanboxy, buildy type world seems right up their ally

Blame TigSource most of all! I only made the Bay12 thread because I saw the video on there and thought 'Oh boy the B12 guys would love the hell out of this' :)

Well, i am a indiegamer.com visiter but usually would "let's play" with www.facepunch.com. But i didn't want to make a thread there just yet because they are busy playing minecraft.

Can't join :/
After "Authenticating..." and "Connecting..." it just says "Could not connect to server". Any ideas?
