CHAPTER ONE

The faded leather bound book seems to be cracking under the mere pressure of the fingers that lift its cover open, inside the faded pages show a image drawn of Ink that shows the rear of a wagon and the trees around it. There used to be colour to this image, but those have long gone to time. The reader could just make out small images of Barrels, Chests and a few odds and ends like Pickaxe, Deerhides and other things alike inside the open wagon, but anything that was detailed was no longer there so just these shapes were smudged and faded...

Turning the page the Ink began its story......

"I can not remember when it was that I left the Village of Worlds End. But I spent most of my time sorting out the goods I no longer needed. I had been slaving away trying to get a Ranch up and running but the lack of Food that would be available to me was slowly declining, forcing me to take my own hand into the different jobs. It mattered little to me, I was ok with it. But after a while I felt that I wanted to try something different...

The wagon was one that I helped build, and there were two others alike that could be left to the village, all the cattle used to pull the cursed things were tamed by my hand aswell, so in truth, they were mine to begin with.... If i could find the cursed things.... I planned to set out and see what I could find south of our village, perhaps another mine of worth. Nodes of Water, soil or clay. Maybe just another place to settle the whole village due to the Shit that had been happening around there. Who knew, I just wanted to get away for a while. See I wasn't leaving fully, still in contact, and would bring back what I didn't use for sale of Food I can not produce on the road...

I feared I could trust little outside our village, as whispers that some folk had started to strike at areas nearby, so heaven knows who I would be talking to at that time.... But perhaps that meant that maybe I could contact folk though the village in the future perhaps...

I lack the Speed (net connection) needed to Fight the creatures on their own terms, with fist and sword. So I remain to use the Sling or bow. While the Bow I own was a Rangers, it did lack strength and such being of such Low quality. A Friend had given me a wonderful gift though of a 228q Sling and a 117q Axe, I wish that I could have given him something in return, but he dumped and logged off. And hasn't talked to me since. None the less I am a good trapper, able to trap Bear, Deer and Boar without incurring large damage dispute being ranged. My stone Pits working 99% of the time unless I build them wrong...

I am nearly done loading the Wagon for this trip, just need to find that Old Raft that was used ages ago, somewhere in the lake to the North I think, before setting off on my travels. A Barrel with some Beer in it for those days when I need a quick drink to fill the belly when things have not been so good. A good amount of Tobacco and the Pipe to smoke it with. A healthy filling of Food to start me off, but its unknown how long that will keep me alive. A Good handful of empty chests, which someday I hope to upgrade to Larger ones through trade. And a Sausage Maker. Other then that, its just the cows trough which will be filled sometime soon, and a healthy handful of Dreams, I hope to be able to come back to the village to pick up more as the time goes on. All thats left if to fill that Trough, grab some Flax seeds which I hope will grow during my sleep out there, cause you never know when a bit of string might be needed.........

I can only ask for luck in my travels, and that I don't bump into anyone who wishes ill of me... That or great Fortune in my searches..."

Well I felt inspired to write something, and was thinking I would continue this every now and then. If people like to follow the tale anyway...

It's a story. If you don't like reading long posts, don't read story threads.
Aaanyway, sounds awesome, but the game jargon/terms were a little jarring (I don't really think anyone would realistically say "q228 sling" in real life, ect)
Right now, it seems like an odd hybrid between a gameplay commentary and an In-character journal. Still, it shows great promise! I demand next chapter!

Stories are nice but accompanying pictures can set the mood. The average person seeing a giant wall of text will probably be turned away.

I guess you read books when they are accompanied with nice, big pictures too. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Anyway, nice story nanothir. Keep them coming, I always like hearthlings journals to see how others experience the game.

Not quite sure what you're implying. I still stand by what I said.

first interpretation: travellers journals in this time - if the traveller got hold of paper or parchment - usually contained writings and descriptions to spare room on the expensive writing ground. if pictures, they were few and mainly described the local flora and fauna. and a good story was not meant to be disturbed by pictures, since this could disturb the imaginary journey of the reader.

second interpretation: oh you computer kids

same here. since there are so many possibilities in how to play the game, the metagame and such, other experiences and approaches are very interesting to read.

I plan to use Game jargon just to hit out that its a Game World and all that, if I wanted to write something a little less of a Game pov, then I would have. Its just how I decided on writing it. A View from a Hearthling who knows what he is and where he is. He will be commenting on things said and done by Real people playing hearthlings yet treating them as if they have their own soul at the same time...

Anyway next chapter coming up shortly...

CHAPTER TWO

The writing passed over a few pages, yet never written on the same leaf as that was before, leaving an empty space of parchment as if the writer planned to attach things or draw pictures onto them. Who knows, there could have been something there as there were splodges of long dried boneglue on a few...

"Well after a few moments of heading towards the Lake to the north I discovered something annoying........
Someone had made off with two parts of the Raft and was kind enough to leave a Runestone apologizing..."

Below the written words was a charcoal scrubbing, clearly this was the markings of the Runestone....

'I have taken 2 of your Raft Parts, seeing as I am too lazy to make my own and raft parts are a dime a dozen, I'll make it up to you with some copper later ^_^'

"I couldn't believe that someone would do that, nice of them to say sorry, but none the less, WHO THE HELL WERE YOU, no point saying you would give us some copper for 'letting' you take some, but who were we expecting it from??? Oh well, I had to duck back to the village and harvest some more flax for extra rope to remake the remaining parts, adding another hour or so to my departure time, grabbed a Spare Dream Catcher so I would be able to gather them after every stop on the unbeaten track...

Sadly no one was really there to say goodbye to me, a half hearten farewell from the Chieften, asking if I wanted him to Exile me. I don't think he was happy to see me head off on my journey, heck I think I will be yelled at by the Lawspeaker when he returns from his trip away himself, but hey I had been planning this for a while just didn't say when I was leaving. Oh well... Besides gonna be dropping back my Kills and stuff for things that might be more useful as time moves on, might even stay for a bit and help out, who knows.........

I had barely left the Village, for the second time, when I found the first Feldspar I have ever seen, granted I was shocked to find one on the mudflats as I thought they were only found on mountains and in caves. I quickly dumped it into the Smiths hands before striking off again (another Feldspar but this one crumbled in my hands, to think a Farmer has too hard a hand to collect a stone......) and quickly headed south to the river. On the way I thought about where my beliefs lied and though that I should move myself away from nature seeing as I will now be taking from it. A bit of Industrial side of things might help if I ever bump into something like Gold or Silver...... Oh that would be nice.......

Damn river Crossings, stupid bull walking away from where I dropped you off. Stupid fussy damn raft when I try to put it together.......

I found a Mountain to the South, but instantly recognized it for what it was and where I had ended up, seems that I was closer to an old villagers, OLD village then I thought, still didn't stop me wasting a bit of Rustroot extract like a fool when I rattled up to the mountain. Naturally no minerals found, oh well never expected to hit something on my FIRST ever use of Rustroot extract. None the less making the damn stuff is a good learning tool...

ANOTHER DAMN RIVER AND THE STUPID BULL WALKING OFF, This time he escaped a good distance that I nearly ran out of steam chasing him down, wish I could tie the damn thing to a stake or a Tree...

Boar and fox. Those are all I found in between leaving Worlds End and passing the Old Village, half ran after the first hit with the sling, the others ran on the third, and even then I still lose nearly 70% of them from lucky runs. I can't wait to hit the full Level X Wilderness, a Bear and some Deer would be good finds, a Group of Deer netting me more then the run around of chasing those stupid pigs and foxes. Oh well soon at the least, the last Fox was only LvL IX so not far now....

Time goes on and my stomach rumbles for some dinner, as good as any spot to park the Wagon, I pray that the damn Bull hasn't wondered off from a stupid glitch or something. None the less there is a Grassland nearby, can easily tame another. Under a big Oak and hidden from sight and a good distance from the River too. Lets see where I get when I come back after a rest......."

There seemed to be a break in the writting as it picked up again a page later yet was not a different chapter...

"I came back from my meal and rest to return to my journey, and lo and behold the first thing I bump into after that was a LvL X bear. I proceeded to set up my Quern Pit Trap and baited the beast in. A few slings later and a Few thousand LP aswell I have a nice Bear that I can skin and Butcher without it doing so to me, Only got hit once and it didn't even hurt. A Boar also wandered into my Pit so I made some BBBs with the meat. Only 2 but none the less a nice catch...

The Lawspeaker came on for a bit, said he wanted to pop on and see what had hit the fan around the village. Sounded quite upset. He was ok with my trip so I am able to enjoy it more so, but my foreheads a little red when he reminded my on what I could do with the bones from my hunts. BoneGlue. I had left my Couldren at the village and was too far to be scrambling around for it. The Lawspeaker said take mine, and had me Port back to the Idol to pick it up, none the less I am now much further away from the Village, sitting nicely against a boulder while I ping some Wild Sheep for their bones to make a quick claim and some glue before I sleep. None the less I hope tomorrow will be an enjoyable time...

Still no Minerals sadly. Perhaps further south...."
