I know the title of this thread might look sort of silly, but H&H has actually had a rather dramatic and positive influence on my life. This post is mostly intended as a thank you for the developers, but I thought it might be reasonable to put it where the players get to read it too.
The idea of surviving in the wilderness really appealed to me in H&H. It did so much, in fact, that I decided to try it out on my own. My university is big on independent studies, so I designed a class around it. I read a lot of books, and got lessons from a guy I know who grew up living far out in the country. I then spent 2 weeks in the woods by myself with a few emergency supplies and a knife. I was on the coast, so I ate a lot of seaweed, mushrooms, and berries. I would have eaten seagulls, mussels and clams too, but it was a red-tide when I went (my only stroke of bad planning). I slept in a hut made of thatched fern fronds and kept a fire going all the time. I tried to snare a raccoon, but failed that. I ate some bugs instead. I made a few tools - a shovel, some spoons, a throwing stick, and a spear/club. Rain was a real danger, but my hut was waterproof and I planned well enough to stay dry.
It turns out, it's a lot harder to survive in the wilderness in real life. There aren't quite so many obviously edible foods growing around, and hunting boar with a stone axe might not be such a good idea.
Anyway, thanks to my H&H inspired adventure I learned a great deal about myself and have a much stronger appreciation for the luxuries provided by society today, as well as the luxuries provided by nature.
