Burg is absolutely correct here, you are judging the whole of the game based on your small social circle. Yes, your friends have become inactive and Griegor had a schedule change due to changes in real life situations that have caused him to effectively quit for now; this in no way represents the whole of the world. Since the day decay was implemented, there has been decay in this world even in active settlements so it is a bad way to gauge activity as you are doing.
There effectively is no way to determine what everyone is doing in the game as the forums, irc, and any given community cannot provide a realistic sample population to this. The point being that your opinion is moot and easily disproven despite your adamant need to cling to it. The world is a large, bustling place with many active and semi-active players growing and developing for each player that has quit or gone inactive. Sure, we're about 100 people shorter than we were three months ago but this also means the server does not perpetually rage-quit on us when we hit 350-400 people online. I for one enjoy the reduced lagg and crashing.
