Just saying hello to everyone. This game is pretty fun.

Hello Biggs, it is good that you are enjoying this world, how are you getting on? Have you made a little home farm for your self yet or are you still enjoying the freedom of roaming the landscape?

I started literally 5 minutes ago, currently walking around in a large forest picking branches. I might make a basket or two, but I don't like where I started so I might wander around and find a more suitable location to settle down in.

just don't settle in a location where you can see a river on your miny map - other wise people can see you and you might get some unwanted attention before you are all set up. Also before you set up make yourself a dowsing rod and search for a well site as this will really help. Have you found the Wiki? That is really helpfull when you first start out and I know it helped me loads.

Well. I was planning on finding a river to settle down next to so I could have access to fish and clay and water. Is it really a bad idea? I wouldn't think people would intentionally seek out others to cause problems.

You have alot to learn then about this game. Might as well already get used to the idea of dying sooner or later. Remember this is basically a permadeath game, so dying might cause a good portion of rage.

there are plenty of idiots around who get their jollies from picking on people who can't fight back. The best thing you can do is once you have found a spot that has clay (not all have a steady supply of clay) you then work back away from the river/lake and make your home just far enough away to be hidden. Traveling should not be a problem and if you raise you Perception/Exploration skills (which should be on top of your list of things to do) then you can use these trips to gather foragables like taproot (which is great as string) and the all important Wild Windsown Weed (WWW)

I've already made peace with my inevitable death, so there shouldn't be any rage.

I will keep your advice in mind. Although I would love to just live by the river, if making my home just far enough away to not be seen will save my life I can live with the walking.

Oh, and a quick question: The weeds give a chance to get ANY type of seed, right?

i have always lived next to a river or lake (except in the first world, where there were no rivers). i've had very few problems, it just depends who your neighbors are. not everyone is out to get you.

and yes, the weeds give any and all seeds, it depends on the location you get them from, so search a wide area.

More then anything - explore! You never know what you will find. Especially when you have your own place set up as you will want to know where you can find everything - you might even find an abandoned place (without a claim on it) that you can take seeds from - that was what I did and it helped me out loads. Just watch out for bears and boars - they like to hide and then jump out when you least expect it
