H&H Server Status:a little application

Postby metaphonia » Fri Oct 29, 2010 8:24 pm

Hi,
Yesterday I was thinking about server crashing. It happens and that's not a problem, the real problem is to check everytime if server is up or not
Then I decided to make something with Visual Basic and now I'm testing a little application that automatically checks server status and gives you updated infos about it.Also it can warn you when server is stopping/stopped or when it's up.Do you think it's a good idea? Are you interested in such application?I'm currently testing it and it seems it works

EDIT:if it's the wrong section,I'm sorry

I would be interested in something that tells the current in-game time and date, and how many people are logged on. Since all that information is on the same page (http://www.havenandhearth.com/portal/srv-state), why not have an app that shows all of this?

Why not simply make it the start page of your browser?

Yeah I can do it too,I use exactly that page for infos. I was thinking about launching the game when server is up.
I'm working also on the timer:would you like to modify it or should I put a fixed time(how much)to update server status?

I'm going on with the development of the application and it's ready for its basic function. But I don't really understand what lastbeat and globtime mean. How do i read them? Also users and chars are different:does it mean that users are players logged in and chars are player effectively playing?

EDIT:also do you think that checking every minute is enough?

users are, as you say, players logged in and chars are characters active in the world, including characters left when a player is disconnected.
lastbeat is the time in real seconds since the server shutdown.
globtime, as I recall, is the time in in-game seconds since midnight on the first day. Can't remember if it was full moon or new moon, though.

You can check my code; it should be correct.
And for the record, in my program I check every minute, but I also added it as a setting so you can change it.
