Steel- not for hermits.

Postby Zamilpen » Wed Feb 09, 2011 2:34 am

Is steel intentionally almost reclusive for villages and small groups? Living by myself I have failed 3 times in a row to keep up with the fueling of steel despite trying to attend to it when I have the time. Anyone else alone having the same problem? Discuss.

Yes, that is kind of the point actually. You can probably manage it maybe on a weekend. It's something like 8 hours for a full fueling. I assume you're just making it for a gate, or at least I would be if I were a hermit.

It used to be a lot worse when you wanted good quality steel. You had to keep it fueled at a certain temperature, meaning shorter times between fueling.

Try to time it right and you might be able to do it during the work days. If you have school/work, fuel it right before leaving for it, and then it should last till you get home.

You only have to refuel the steel crucible once every 12 real hours if you are making wall grade steel, so if you can't do that you can't make the steel.

I have made steel as a hermit before, it wasn't that bad.

And I sleep for said 8 hours so that would be rather problematic isn't it? The alternative is to macro and that would require crap quality branches sadly.

No I'm not making steel for a gate. I probably won't have a gate for my home.

@Rye. I got incoming multiple exam so not the best time to do so anymore. You would be suprised at how well normal real life is good at distracting those 8 hours as well, heh.

@Valnar. Actually the crucile has 18 ticks which is 36 minutes each (correct me if I am wrong) which is 10.8 hours (wow I really suck more than I thought).

What exactly are you making steel for?

Basically equipments. I could trade for them but at the current moment villages are more prioritizing outfitting their villagers first.

I am pretty sure a full crucible lasts 12 hours.

Each tick is 40 minutes, actually.

Personally I hadn't problem with making steel solely even good q and even before temp-q removal. Though some careful planning was needed. Then "fuel it before sleep, fuel it right after sleep, fuel it after work" worked for me fine.

Am I the only hermit having problems?

Note: If a mod is around, mind moving this to Inn if it drifts away from C & I?
