PVP Factions

PVP in H&H would be pretty good if it was faction based, here are some pros:

-it's been used successfully in WOW, DAOC, WAR, and SWG
-it largely does away with griefing
-makes pvp fun and constructive
-if you just use a FFA model it will end up a big grief fuck fest like UO and AC
-would give classes like this a legitimate use (fighting other factions) rather than griefing
-it would make town placement actually matter (in the strategic context of your faction) instead of just building anywhere and everywhere in huge loose groups with no defence

PVP in H&H right now is the same as it is in UO, so I don't see how it can ever be more than just a bunch of griefers or big groups going around raping towns and individuals who aren't prepared to defend themselves.

With factions there should be mechanics that let towns/factions organize battles, ex. town A in the butt faction declares that it will siege town B in the dick faction in 24 hours. Then people could fight meaningful fun pvp at their full strength and resources. If any town could just go siege another town instantly it would virtually always be a rout since noone would be ready to defend it- yea it kinda sucks for your sandbox model but it's a game so you have to compromise. If you wanted to declare attacks of less severity like a raid where people can only steal stuff, it would give appropriately less notice, say 12 hours.

You can take a town B's faction and shove it up your own town A's faction with this suggestion

What stops people from declaring war on all other towns? Alternatively, doesn't this mean you need to be in a town to pvp? Doesn't this mean that people can make themselves immune to PvP by not joining an official town?

Shouldn't that be, "I prefer faction vs faction PVP in MMO's"

Instead of doing something different let's become a carbon copy? Originality is already lacking in MMOs.
Ford wrote:-it largely does away with griefing

How exactly? If anything it'll cause more griefing between people who are in the same faction and there is nothing they can do about it.

The system as it is, is fine. It's only a FFA if you want it to be. You can band up with a bunch of players and attack a town if you want to. I am sure if a large group of players sacked a major town other people would group up and try to retaliate. You have to remember that this is a permenant death game, people take don't take PvP lightly.

It's faction probably would. Say factions had a ruling council of town leaders, if one town in the faction went rogue the other towns in the faction could group up on it and fuck it up until they settled town. This would be in the faction's best interest diplomatically, as such actions could cause multiple other factions to declare war on it. Stuff like that anyway.

Why would they be immune? Whether there are factions or not independents will just get the shit beat out of them from towns or griefers or both.

I would not be surprised to see factions naturally develop in this game. I think we're actually in the early stages of groups larger than villages popping up, and will see more of it as time goes on.

P

sounds like you got sand in your vadge, stop crying. im so fucking tired of seeing people complaining about "griefing".

this game is a SANDBOX game, you form your own factions, alliances and armies. if you get killed or attacked, thats not griefing, thats part of the game.
dont you get a rush when you run into battle risking your characters life?

if you cant deal with the game mechanics (and after the few games you mentioned that had a 'good pvp model' whilst listing great games and saying they sucked) just dont play the game. i hate it when asshats complain about game mechanics and what not and the developers bow down to that shit and make the game a big care bear fuck fest like WoW (see what i did there)
