Reverse Griefing

Postby AlfredNonymous » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:21 am

So I'm thinking about anonymously breaking into some n00b homes near me and leaving them stuff I don't want or need, like low-q produce and seeds that I'm not going to use. I realize this would leave a trespassing scent, but would there be any other scents left or other negative repercussions (aside from the obvious "potentially helping an enemy")? I don't really care so much about being tracked (though I doubt folks would be able to track me), just don't want to be able to be summoned.

(Also, if anyone needs some seeds, plant fibers, straw, and/or produce and lives in the general vicinity of the the large phallus-shaped lake around -70, 4, PM me and we can work something out.)

I don't think leaving items uses theft or vandalism, just more trespassing scents. Shouldn't be a problem -- it's a major pain to track someone with just trespassing scents since they disappear so quickly anyway and you can't use them to summon. Worst comes to worst just walk onto their land with a crate and drop that. That definitely leaves no theft or vandalism scents.

I have a severe lack of crates and trees around me at the moment, so I was thinking that filling existing containers would be easiest. And I wouldn't think it'd leave theft or vandalism scents either; however, I don't think that the general practice is to break into peoples' homes and leave stuff, so I'm not sure how the system's mechanics would deal with it.

I've done it before, as a newbie in World 3. I was sifting through someones things and accidentally placed a hide in their cupboard. I didn't have theft so I couldn't remove it. I'm assuming this didn't leave a theft scent, as I didn't have theft though I admit I didn't actually range to check.

Note: There were so many abandoned and long since decayed claims in w3, there was no reason not to venture the risk and invade them. Free crops for newbies~!

I ambled into a newbie's camp today and put a barkboat in her crate.

I'd be tempted to grab trespassing just for the joy of leaving primitive dolls and barkboats in people's houses, like a slightly weird Santa Claus :)

Dropping items in containers WILL NOT leave ANY scents at all. The only scents you will make are trespassing from opening the container.

I am not 100% sure, but I think putting items in containers does leave a theft scent.

Yeah I also think that it does leave a theft scent when you put an item in to a container that is on a claim you do not have access to.
