Hard luck hunter

Postby gbrish » Sun Apr 10, 2011 5:42 am

So I went out hunting today just like any other. I gathered my bow and my quiver, grabbed a boat, said goodbye to my village and set out on my way. Today I decided to start my adventure north and headed along the river.. no luck so far... So I kept heading along the river until it ran out. At this point I decided "hey maybe I'll keep going" so I picked up my boat and walked along the land looking for the next body of water. To my surprise a I saw a boar, not being much of a warrior I fearfully dropped my boat and ran though it was too late. The boar caught up to me and gored me with his mighty tusks. Panicked I attempted to hold my position, I withstood his attacks for a time for through training I have learned to harden my body and absorb blows. I tried to get a shot in at him, alas my bow was too slow and my aim was not accurate, the boar had slain me... I laid there silently on the ground awaiting death but to my fortune the boar spared me for the time being.

I crawled hurt along the ground.. after recovering just enough strength I was able to lift my vessel off the ground. "Ah, thank heavens", I thought to myself as I walked to the first sight of water. Not quite recovered from my recent encounter I dropped my boat along the shore and rested. After a little while I set off again to continue my adventure.

To my surprise, not long after I hit water I came across a lone deer standing by the shore. "lucky at last!" I shouted, I excitedly pull my bow and drew my arrow, "this deer shall make a great suvanier", I muttered to myself as I released the arrow with great cheer... the arrow glanced off his brow. Angrily the deer rushed at me and I laughed at his stupidity, "silly deer", I gazed at him as I drew my bow for a second time. My arrow flew true piercing the deer in the shoulder. Unfortunately the wound was not deep and the deer, becoming wary of the danger, fled away. Readily, I gathered my materials for I knew of the nature of deer. Shortly he comes back seemingly unharmed, "how could this be?" I gasped, oh well I braced myself as he walked next to me with raging eyes but would not attack out of fear. This time I was sure to trap him so he does not escape, confidently I drew my arrow once again at point blank range. The deer stared at me with contempt as I released the bow. At that moment the deer was wounded again but alas the wound was again too shallow! "What is this deer made of?", I wonder and then something unexpected happens- the world itself seemed to stop and the wind became still, my body was unable to move, even time itself seemed to be in disarray but the deer alone lifted up his legs and flew over my head. "A miracle?" I stared in awe as the deer flew away through the trees. Though stunned I was not ready to give up on my quarry. I removed my trap, hide my boat and searched with haste. "This deer will pay for this embarrassment he has caused me!" I tred through the woods and the swamps, among the banks and the rivers, but there was no sign of this mysterious deer. "Oh well it must be a trick of fate." I think to myself as I reluctantly gathered my weapon and my boat and headed back to town.

Unhappy of my recent hunt I recovered for a short while contemplating the mysterys of the universe. "Where is that deer by now?" I wondered "Has he flown to the north or perhaps join his brethren in some distant planet?" after a good while I laughed off the incident and decided I will head out again in hopes of finding one last prey before I sleep tonight.

This time I decided I would head west." Damn the northern frontier may I never walk again upon its cursed soil!" I huffed and headed across a vast lake and rowed silently among its bank. Eventually I came upon a river and just as I was about to give up I spied nothing other than a giant hulking beast of great prowess; a majestic bear of such wonder that I was stupefied in its presence. "At last my curse has been broken", I thought as I hastened to the shore once again gathering my bow and quiver and stood before this great prize. "I will slay you no matter what!" I shouted and the boar ran to me with bloodthirsty eyes. I released my first blow which launched sharply into his thick flesh. The bear was severely wounded and with great vigor I released my second arrow, suddenly the great beast saw a force that even he could not bear. He turned and ran into the forest.. annoyed I docked my boat. "I will not let this one escape!" But alas this bear was quick and before long he had dashed into the forest. "What is going on?" I thought, "there is no way such a great beast would run so far from a man of such small stature?" But alas I gathered my materials and searched for this bear, an occurrence all too familiar, I traveled wearily into the woods far from any water or shore, the trek was long and yet there was no sign of this cowardly bear. "where could such a huge beast hide?" Greatly frustrated I packed my belongings and headed back to the village, "blast this world and her beasts! May they all burn in that mysterious place they dwell."

In summary, please do something about all your despawning creatures jorb, loftar. T_T

C&I is for suggestions for the game, and In Congress assembled is for politics.

ah, yeah well most of the issues with AI and animals are well known so I intended this to be more of a "cool story bro" post than anything else.

Anyways I had quit an adventure and the day only got stranger as time went on. I could even elaborate more on the events that happened later that night but at the moment I am tired and have an early day tomorrow so I will continue part 2 of my adventure at another time. I will say that I did manage to kill a bear and a deer that night however they were different ones and there are many interesting things to say about how I came across them.

best way to hunt is to get marks up to around 40, UA to around 20.
These methods require a boat to safe-spot from
Boar
Now before you shoot, call down thunder twice to get 6 IP(for Knock his teeth out) or 2IP (for sting), then start to sling it, as soon as you make it run, sprint after it and 'knock his teeth out'/sting this should kill the boar where he stands

Deer
One option is to aggro them to the shore, break combat, return and trap them against the water (this will stop them fleeing) and just hope you can get 4-5 good consecutive hits depending on your marksman and kill it, this is the long tedious way, another way is to get out the boat once its trying to run away but it cant because of the trap, start charging it with death or glory as the manoeuvre, one you have around 30 IP use opportunity knocks until its def bar is down, then use knock his teeth out/sting this requires around 20 UA/MC

The other option is to just shoot it so it runs, get out of the boat and chase it, once it heals it SHOULD bug and just hug you, you can then do the charge method as mentioned above.

Bear
With Bears you want to get a pack full of rocks and begin slinging, in the event of it running off, break combat with it and call down thunder, bears will re aggro normally I find, so it will suddenly switch from fleeing to attacking you again,
repeat this process untill the flames are coming out his eyes, he SHOULD not run from that and you can just sling him to the last breath

hope that helps

Nice reply Rallor. Thanks for the advice! It would be awesome if someone added that strategy to the wiki or something so hunters would stop using the fight/bug approach to. For me some of them are useful, however I use bows for hunting so these strategies probably wont work well for me. Also my post was mainly focused on lag and despawning of animals, I did use call of thunder etc for hunting and trapped deer but didn't put that in my OP. (or at least I did but not clearly)

Nice trick with Call Thunder. I'll have to remember that. I lost a bear earlier cause I was in my pali slinging it and it ran.
