Mutually Assured Destructively Awesome Macroing

Postby Peter » Wed Sep 09, 2009 7:20 am

I decided that rather than spend 6 years grinding in order to get high-level, I will use a macroing program. However, I still feel guilty about this "cheating". So, I've decided to try to do good works as a part of this, and ensure that I'm not going to be getting an advantage over other players, just the wildlife.

I will thus be documenting the ways that I try to macro, so that the developers will have useful information as to how my riegn of claydigging will be stopped, and other players might be able to use the same techniques to compete with me.

Also, I won't use any destructive exploits, such as the notorious former claim crash exploit.

My current plan is to dig for clay next to an apple tree and simply cycle through digging, making teapots, dumping them, and stopping to eat. Should be simple, but I suspect slow.

I'd like to know what systems others use, of course.

And I want to preemptively say that yes, I am justifying my cheating by saying I'm helping. I figure that my choices are: Spend 6 years grinding, Cheat and be unhappy about it, or Cheat and justify it. I plan to be happy.
Surprise.

you suck at macroing

ps: the chicken+rabbit exploit gives 1k/hr at full trad (9k/hr at full change)

(digging and making teapots gives less per hour because of the time you spend drinking water and eating, even though it's more lp/second to craft)

* what macro software are you using
* are you using image searches, or just assuming things are where they should be

You don't need to make a forum post to justify it to yourself. Also, who cares? Macro to your heart's content, dude. Do what you need to do to enjoy the game.

I guess also, in answer to your queston, my system is to play the game and have fun doing low level stuff (make a cabin, farm some crops, fish bake etc) in a town with a bunch of funny people running around doing their own thing and slowly accumulate LP that way.

For my own macro's I'm directly modifying the client source code (or more specifically writing my own code that has a few 'hooks' into the client, to intercept messages within the UI and automate some things like, "pick all the apples" or "harvest all these crops" or "grind all this flour"

Another question, what do you want to do with your masses of LP once you've got it?

Well, let's see... even a several solid days of macroing will only get me few hundred thousand LP, just enough to bring exploration to something half-decent (and only barely half-decent) and then I might be able to find some redroot. Assuming I can find perception foods.

Anyway, to answer those questions, I intend to use something simple if only because I want to spend less time configuring the macro than it would take to do it that hard way. In particular, AutoHotKey.

What is this chicken thing? It's not like you get LP for killing them...

bring me 10 cast 5 wrought and 1 steel

and i will tell you how to use the chicken+rabbit macro (the chicken+fox macro is better but sometimes it messes up if the fox isn't trapped right)

The one thing that I can see would be a major problem would be lag compensation and server crashes. Simple server lag may completely throw off the bot.
