Map Quadrants

Typical cartesian graph coordinates work like this.
Haven and Hearth's map coordinates work like this.

Does this annoy anyone else? I feel like my sense of direction is constantly being trolled by Jorb anf Loftar.

it's not jorb and loftar that host the world map, it's Alg.

It's either Enders or Loftar that set the name of the downloaded map files though.

Whoever it is that did it, it's not just you that feels trolled.

I could be wrong, but I think its how loftar actually does handle coords in the game.

Although it may be annoying, it does make sense

How does it make sense?

How does it not? Top left is the lowest numbered coords, and as you head south/east the number rises.

It "makes sense" in the fact that it's easy to follow how it works, but it still doesn't make sense to do it ass backwards when the standard of cartesian graphs is right in front of you.

i think that theres bigger issues to haven personally.. more bothered about bug users than map co-ordinates..

....

Nobody has figured the reason for this? It's pretty damn obvious to me. It's the same numbering system as graphics coordinates with the center being the top-left corner of the screen (thus three quads 'off screen'). It prevents some major headaches from coming up for map translations, and players weren't intended to make composite maps. (It's just a consequence of the hacker tude.)

Bolded the functional word for ya. Systems work however the mathematician needs them to work. The coordinate system for computer graphics work the way they do because televisions started a scan line at the upper left corner and worked left to right, top to bottom (then bottom to top drawing alternating lines on interlaced displays).
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
