I noticed that a lot of the threads on this forum seem to be very aggressive!

Newer players are harassed for not knowing what they're doing or not using all the tools available to them (Like client mods, Skype, etc.). People who are unhappy about being killed for the umpteenth time are immediately shot down, blamed for their own deaths. Y'ever notice that it seems to be justified with a 'You shouldn't have been a weak person' style argument?

At any rate, stuff like this hasn't happened to be. I usually have the fortune of settling in a nice area, only receiving the occasional person come bother me. I'm no pro player, who knows all the tricks and secrets. It took me three or four weeks to finally get around to putting up my palisade. I am not normally one to complain. It's my humble opinion that this forum tends to be very aggressive.

Thoughts? Complaints? Feeling aggressive already?

That's faulty, victim blaming can be fine depending on the circumstance. This is a video game, it shouldn't be compared to rape.

That's just the way it is. New players are warned in basically every guide floating around that this is not the fuzzy-cuddle game you may have come to to expect from other games. This kind of game will inevitably attract a certain kind of people. You have to acknowledge that your plight won't cause anyone here to shed a tear. If anything, someone raging on the forum about some unfair behaviour will amuse the crowds and lead to the kind of comments you mentioned. Smarten up, read the guides and hope that next time you remain undetected long enough to set yourself up - or simply join a village for (added) protection.

Sure, this game would have a wider appeal if there were more safeguards in place to protect newbies - if only for the first few days - but right now the game has all the playerbase it needs. More players would inevitably mean a bigger strain on the server, which is already strained as it is, especially on sundays. The devs just don't have the resources available to advance this game much at this point, since they are tied up with the development of Salem.

Depending on the circumstance indeed. But let's not forget that this also a video game which you have the chance to decide your own fate (Options). Of course a random killer could just bump into you and kill you, but there are many ways to avoid getting yourself killed. There rarely is a victim here that was killed without reason or that it could not be prevented.

If you read my post, you'd note that nothing that bad has happened to me; I'm just wondering why everyone jumps to hating on the new guy straight away.

99% of the time someone is killed and posts it on the forum it goes a little something like this:

"Me and my friend derp were just out picking apples and some THUGS came up and ran inside our palisade (which we left open because it's easier to haul apples!) They took EVERYTHING. Why u taek everything? :[ After that we asked if they wanted to trade for our stuff back but instead they KILLED us! We do nothing to nobody! We offered apples! Plz forum come kill these people they're criminals who should be taught a lesson!

this is FAR from being the worst (read best) community i've ever been.

for example i don't know if anyone here ever playind Infatry Online, but that community was awful (read awesome).
