So long, farewell...

Postby btaylor » Wed Feb 15, 2012 8:51 am

Well, my friends. This is a farewell from me to you. This thread will likely be locked and I do not intend this to be an advertisement of sorts, merely a goodbye to let people know that I will be leaving H&H forever, and yes I mean it.

All of you probably haven't heard, but SOE announced they would be sunsetting (closing the game forever) the Everquest version for Macintosh on the 29th of March. What made this game special compared to the PC version of Everquest was that the game was locked in the Planes of Power expansion. It's the closest thing to a legitimate classic server that you can find.

I have been a member of the EQMac community since the very first day I bought my iMac and I can tell you they're very good people, just like you are here. Sort of like my "first family" as far as forum communities go. We were all devastated when we heard the news. Even when we were still paying subscriptions to play they had the gall to turn their backs on us. We clearly weren't going to go down without a fight, however.

As soon as we heard the news we took to the internet, posting on forums and letting gaming news websites know of our ending. We had to bring our situation into the light so people could see what SOE was doing to us after so many loyal years from our playerbase.

We eventually got ahold of Smedley himself and our top diplomats took him to the bargaining table over the future of EQMac.

Smedley posted on his twitter account that we have won, and we will be keeping our server. The game will now be free to play and open to everyone (on a Mac.)

We have truly outdone ourselves and I am now leaving to rejoin my brothers and sisters on EQMac. I will never forget any of you and I hope I never caused too much trouble around here, hehe. Farewell my friends. Until we meet again.

TL;DR version: I'm leaving to play EQMac and never coming back. I will miss you H&H.

Is that actually possible??

I never met you, but you seem like a pretty cool guy and or girl. Have fun :)

Sucks to see you go. What about your little project of starting over new? Will Hazzor continue there alone?

Congratulations on winning a hard fought battle. Smedley is a tough nut to crack. If I was still playing EQ/EQ2, I'd have probably been doing the same thing over the closing of the Station Exchange.

We'll miss you. Stick you're nose in and at least say hello. Hell, I might just have to get a Mac so I can play golden-era EQ. (Assuming I can ever get my current dinosaur replaced, that is.)

We were actually raided awhile ago and went our separate ways from there.

I'll stop in from time to time to see what's going on, and yes Smedley is a tough person to deal with. It all came as a surprise when he decided to let our server live, even more so when he said it would be free to play.

Enjoy your F2P game but make sure you come back to these forums from time to time and say hello. We can't afford to lose someone who's opinion isn't entirely shitty all the time.

Man, normally when I see your name under an active topics post, I'll hop in for either a laugh or a bit of insight, your loss will make this place just a little shittier.

See you once upon a server reset my friend.

Smed is about as trustworthy as a rabid dog, this is coming from someone who knows him semi-personally. That server will still go down given 3-6 months and I'd bet cold hard cash that soon as Jorb and Loftar start releasing updates again you'll be right back in the thick of it here. Everquest never could and never will hold a candle to Haven. That being said, have fun and drink a toast to ole Painhertz if you find yourself on the Field of Bone in Kunark. If I ever had a home in EQ, that was it.
