Setting up an inn next to RoB

Postby Loopoo » Tue Oct 06, 2009 11:23 am

Hey guys, I have a GREAT idea. I want to set up an Inn (basically a cabin with a cellar) right next to the RoB.

I will run it and will sell beer and baked goods, mainly bread. I will charge 1c per mug of beer, which I think is a fair price.

The Inn will be open to all, and we can get to know each other, make friends, make bawdy songs and jest with one another :D

I seriously hope this turns out well, the only thing I need is HELP. I need people to help build a pallisade (seeing as I won't put a claim on it) or even better, a stone wall. Once that happens, i'll leave the Inn open 24/7.

I plan on having two inns, one inn that keeps all the beer and mugs locked away, and the other that is the actual inn where people go in and talk and chat etc. I have to do this because I don't want thieves just walking in and taking a barrel away.

I will bring barrels in when people need more, and it'll be great. Also, if someone feels particularly generous, they can buy 1-2 whole barrels of beer and just share it with everyone, so i'll bring it out and just dump it there for everyone to use :D I think this would be a great opportunity to make friends, get to know people better and it could be a nice place to trade.

So, anyone willing to help, just give a shout-out and i'll happily accept it. Also, i'm looking to hire bartenders, whom I shall give keys to look after the Inn when I am gone. Sadly, I will only accept people I know are trustworthy.

I have no idea when the inn will be ready, but no doubt it'll not be ready for a week or so, because i'm bogged down with work, but then again, if someone who i've hired wants to take over, i'm happy with that. All I want is a nice atmosphere next to Brodgar City (i'll probably import wine and nice foods from here) where people can meet, share stories, arrange hunting parties and just have a good time getting completely smashed :D

It can also act as a resting spot, for people who have just traded. They can come and buy a mug or two of beer to replenish their weariness and be on their way again!

I think If you make two alts you can make claims so that People Will not be able to grief claim the area but so that people can regularly access the place. I thought about this myself but haven't taken time to work out the logistics of exactly how large it can be. I should think you would only need to pallisade one area for the storehouse. I doubt there is a way to make this endeavor reasonably profitable. But if you go about executing it I would donate beer and mats for the project. Given I have Decent AGI it couldn't be too much trouble for me to drop a hearth somewhere that hasn't been clearcut and port some logs in. I think this is an excellent Idea, nothing worse than getting stuck at RoB without any wine/beer when your hearth is set up for hunting a damn good hike away from your village. =P

The attendees would obviously simply be responsible for making sure there are about 10-20L in the barrel at any given time. Enough to keep travelers supplied but not so much as to make it tempting to real thieves. It would certianly only be griefers. I think That there is an excellent grassland north of RoB that would be perfect for this. You should bring this to the attention of Brodgar as they may be able to help you with the project. Being under village partial village jurisdiction would make it easier to circumvent griefers. Work out the logistics, cost of mats and such and i'll see how much I can contribute.

Hopefully others will be inspired as well!

I too would be happy to Donate/Sell Beer and such to the possibility of aiding Traders and those that need to travel, as will I to any other patron that wishes to do so at Major Cities and areas. Not just the RoB. I believe that it will be a profitable experience to all...

Not only profitable, but fun. I would love to meet some other people, other than the odd few I see too preoccupied with doing their own thing.

People I meet at RoB are usually gone in a minute. It would be nice to have a beer, get your hunger and weariness back up, then head on out again with a friend or two.

I want to situate it near a river (most like a river EAST of RoB, cause my settlement has a river connecting it there) so when boats are introduced, it can become awesomely supplied.

I'm thinking (if anyone has read A Song of Ice and Fire, with Tyrion Lannister, Ned Stark, Rob Stark etc. it's a book) of making it like the Arbor in the series of books (A Game of Thrones and so on). Basically, the Arbor was a VERY rich coastal village that had its main export as amazing wine which sold for a very high price.

If the inn works out, i'll pallisade off another place and make it a personal hops / grape farm.

Right now i've got some pretty decent grapes (thanks to SwampCrazed) and some hops on the way.

I'll contact Yolan now and see what he makes of it.

Haha, i've got 29l of Q38 wine fermenting, not yet wine, another 2 days and it should be ready.

When the server comes back up, i'm planting a hops field and then i'll start building barrels and making malted wheat. I'll go into good production and I should be making about q30 beer.

The pain is gonna be transporting it to the inn...

Yeah. Well it took time for me, cause not only did I have connection issues but I did Solo build a Village that was promised to be used. And hasn't been lately. And well, I can't be buggered leaving it now, too much work put into it. Taken me ages just to get it to the state that its in by myself...

I have to get some ovens set up in my settlement and i'll be good. Only reason i'm prospering so much is the fact that my village is about a minute walk away from me, so I can get seeds I need from there and other goods.

Well if tonight Boats are Implemented. Boats that can carry things like Barrels,
I will send my first few Barrels to you my friend, as as a measure of Good will...
Our fair group already has someone making High Qual Beer, (bastard has higher Farming so Higher qual Components) and well I would love to be able to undercut him in Quantity, but if not its all good, there is a great big world out there...

Nevyn, I would love to have your help, thought you have to remember, this Inn won't be up and running for a week or even two...

I have a lot of schoolwork, serious business. I can only really play H&H in the Weekends.

I'll do my best to get it set up. First I need to know where to put it. I'm looking on the map now.
