first boar kill (by hand)

Postby Amanda44 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:11 pm

I've just killed my first boar with hand to hand combat - i know thats pretty lame this late in the game  but its still a first for me, so please excuse my excitement.

For newer players: It was on a foraging alt with just 25str and 35 ua and i barely got a scratch, so its a lot easier than i imagined, so don't be fearfull like i was and go for it. I could have probably done it with a lot less - took all of like 20 seconds, lol.

Yeah!

Lol, you'll get them soon enough, someone with more experience at this than me will hopefully post how little of str and ua you can actually do it safely with - as it must be quite a bit lower than what my alt had judging by how easy it was.
:D

Congratulations on the accomplishment~! It is rather quite exciting to take down your first boar, first deer, and first bear. Don't let anyone get you down on it being a minor milestone, it is a big step in understanding combat and improving your condition in the game. It is also just awesome to say that you took on a creature with bare hands that normally requires a claymore with 'boar stoppers' on it if you want to handle it in closer quarters.

Thx Teck - not sure its realy helped my understanding of combat, lol, was more of a 'panic button pressing' fight. I had already sling-shot it for 46 damage when i realised it was coming for me (wasn't zoomed out) then after that it was just anything to try and survive

When it fell down dead and i'd took so little damage i was amazed, won't be trying a bear anytime soon though - lol.

Re: first boar kill (by hand) - or maybe not

Oh dear, this is rather embarrassing but it appears i may have been unintentionaly misleading.

I've just been talking to a ranger clad guy on the mountain, who says the boar was actualy running from him after taking substantial damage, he was surprised my initial sling-shot didn't drop it on the spot. It would also explain why it just stood there for a couple of seconds and let me hit it without retaliating, and also why it was all over so quickly.

I didn't want to come back and tell, lol, but i've just got this image of 10str / 10ua newbs all running around trying to kill boars - please don't you'll just get slaughtered.

She had bronze armour which would partly explain why i took so little damage. Other than the fact that it was already on its last legs so to speak.

So, it would appear i haven't single-handedly killed my first boar after all - gutted. :(

Now, if you don't mind i'm just gonna slink away until this thread disappears off the bottom of the page.

I was wondering how did you manage to kill it with 35ua as you need at least 70+ to not be beaten (probably some people can do it even with less). I recommend you around 100ua if you go first time. And it's not so hard, just learn all fighting skills and go for it.

Good job! I don't feel like my characters are capabable of decent combat unless I can melee/UA "at least" a boar.
