Bonded currency.

Postby HarryDresden » Mon Mar 19, 2012 5:28 am

Has anyone thought to make a form of bonded currency. Not necessarily gold coins that could be re-worked, but perhaps a lesser material, like copper and Bronze, that was backed by valuable items? Something like 10 copper pieces per Bronze, 10 bronze per pearl, with the per-established points being used by various traders being a basis of contention?

Experiences with these forms of currency? I'm getting tired of farming pearls myself, and considering making a village bank for trade between members, as well an incentive program using stands to buy better items they want. Get your job done, like making linen cloth for banners, or doing the steel, get paid, have fun. I've been thinking about this for a while now.

Even with equally valuable items being traded in for them as well? Creating the baking industry isn't something I'm looking for, just incentive to get the more boring tasks in game done.

the problem you have with this is more or less based on usage. you can't eat a coin, you can't kill someone with a coin, you can't get lp from a coin. get my drift here? a coin holds no value when compared to a high q sword. just wasted inventory space.

also to have it "backed up" by higher value items, people will find that stash and render your coins useless. you can't kill 5 bears for 150 gp from that npc over there.

Yeah the only way coins work is if they're server distributed. Having a central trade area where you can sell your goods to NPCs for coinage or some other way to "earn" coins through in game tasks.

Pearls work fine as a standard in game currency, and they're always useful.

Thats why most items in the trade center seems to use edels and pearls. The robes i got today had a option of pearls or edels on 2 different stands. I also saw some people converting the 2 in area chat.
