So here it is:

I decided to spread the !!FUN!! to veteran and new players alike. Dwarf Fortress is a game in which the only "goal" is the survival of your Dorf settlement.
Your dwarfs all have different skills, likes, dislikes, deities, etc. They can make friends with other dwarfs, get married, have kids, have pets, and, most importantly, get jobs. Your military will have to defend the fortress against marauding: Goblins, Elves, Kobolds, Humans, Undead, Dragons, Forgotten Beasts, and, don't forget, the Hidden Fun Stuff.
Dwarf Fortress was released in 2006 and is still getting updated. The Latest update was on March 30 2012.

So lets all tell tales of Urist McDumbAssDwarf or of any thing related to the game.

Was the bug ever solved with liquids contaminating everything and slowing the game down to a crawl? I'll be honest, that was the latest reason I quit. I hated getting a fortress good and running just to have a slug monster show up and turn half of the world into slime just because of how liquid contamination spread, dropping my FPS from 150 to significantly less than 1.

i stopped playing here recently too because world generation of even medium sized worlds would slow down to 0-1 FPS

anytime other then that i get 150+ just as teck.

I have to admit I haven't played in a while, but the new minecart//improved hauling/mining posts on the devlog look intrigueing.

!!! Improved hauling you say? You have my interest good sir. A major pain was the sheer necessity of massive numbers of dedicated hauling laborers due to just how inefficient hauling everything was.

I also hear that adventure mode was significantly improved and is actually much fun now though I know not the details aside from there being significantly more to do now than to hire on a bunch of children to utilize as human shields.

I haven't had any problems with lag myself. I've only been playing for about a month so maybe it's been corrected in the newer versions.

I was actually contemplating posting if anyone could help me beat the learning curve. I wish I could get into it, but the guides don't suit me and there don't seem to be too many. Perhaps some good packs, and what to do once I see that massive pile of shit that you see when you start the game.

I haven't had any problems with lag.

Also a guide I started from:

http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/
It has pictures, a mod pack, an old dwarf manager, and is pretty in-depth.
