That only works if your coal is better than your branches. Which isn't going to happen if your tree is higher quality than your clay, which is quite likely given the availability of Q96 soil, and the scarcity of clay above Q60.

It takes a number of generations for your trees to catch up with the soil quality, and each generation takes long-ass time. Using coal for bricks lets you get them close to your clay quality in very little time.

Anyway, has anyone figured out a honey quality chart? I can't get it above q6 :(

That chart is incomplete. You need to list smoke as a tree product.
