Returning player wondering about the state of the game.

Postby Kurundo » Fri Feb 22, 2013 5:44 am

Usually I would be curious about politics and what is going on, but due to the lack of players I suppose there is very little interesting going on. I guess at this point I am wondering when this lag started happening and why. I remember long periods of server downtime, but never choke ups like this. So what happened? I hear there is a problem in the code, but I don't remember the problem causing this much lag while it was supporting a playerbase 10 times the size of what we have now. So when the lag came, why was there no revert/rollback?

If you all are tired of explaining this, sure, I'm down for hearing politics and hearthling antics that have happened lately.

Bob dole would like to say that there has always been lagg, however the lagg has gotten worse since bob dole quit playing. The reason being is Bob dole gives off an aura that makes the lagg 50% better, but even with bob doles impressive powers the game is still unplayable, and will continue to be unplayable for a few years to come.

Jorb and loftar are too busy working on their vertigo simulator, bob dole thinks it was called salem. It's basically a crappier version of haven, but theres cliffs everywhere to piss you off and the camera spins, so you can't tell what direction your going.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

in short Loftar had to update server OS debian from version 5 to version 6 , sadly it appeared that in his server configuration in combination with the file system xfs he's using some i/o operations causing the lag - he tried with different kernels already but testing is time consuming... you might perform a search for Loftar posts to read his postings about...my guess is he wants to find a colocation for an own server in Stokholm to have a short way personal access to it, set it up, run tests and start it with revamped code and W7. I don't think it makes sense to put anymore big efforts into the existing world so they just let it run...

Thanks, A while after posting this thread I heard a similar story from a friend whom I used to play with. Something about an OS upgrade that he can't change back because the version he was using doesn't exist anymore or something of the like. I'll do more research on this later I suppose.

But I don't play planetside, but if I did I probably would be teamkilling you. Not because I don't like you, but because that's how I get off.

To be honest, the creation of Salem just seemed redundant. I guess I should just be happy that they are inspired devs, even though I hate Salem.
