so its not really a console then? or is it? installing games seems like something a PC should do... so its like a less powerful PC? then again, I dont know much about it.

that pay wall stuff is pretty scum baggy as well. "you want to play your game but your old xbox one is busted? well give us more money so you can keep using it with your new xbox one you consumerist shit head. WE OWN YOU!! MICROSOFT OWNS THE WORLD! GIB MOAR MONIES!" they dont really do much to endear themselves to the public do they...

also, no backwards compatibility and no xbox arcade? I never used the arcade thing, but it was pretty sweet on my friends exbawks.

a console is pretty much a pc dedicated to a single purpose, not like a pc which does anything and everything. so in a sense, by writing to the drive it increases the speed at which the game can run.
also, its one hell of a machine. 8gigs ram with however much hard drive space is a beast for such a 'small' thing

Other wise, i completely agree with you, it's a money grab :/

Well, once upon a time, consoles were still better than PCs for the purpose they were dedicated to, however. These days, that seems to be a long time ago, though. :|

Except it's really not. RAM is pretty much free these days. Last time I upgraded my own PC -- which is now more than a year ago -- I stuffed it with 16 GB RAM simply because "why not", and I'd be very much surprised if the new XBox doesn't turn out more expensive still.

Just look at the rest of the hardware, as well. While detailed specs haven't been released yet, the CPU is boasted as an AMD APU, which means it's most likely a Bulldozer derivative (enjoy your shared FPUs), which in turn means that it won't even be able to compete with e.g. a Core i7 now, let alone in a year or two. Not much is said about the GPU, but if the PS4 is anything to judge by, it will be outperformed by current-generation (which will be past-generation by the time the PS4 or the new XBox are actually released) PC video cards by almost a factor of 2.

Which leaves the reason for playing games on new consoles pretty much at them being EAs preferred DRM platform.

I don't even hate consoles per se, but their development as of late isn't exactly exciting, and I can only hope that they fail miserably, so that their developers might take a hint.
