Those players

Postby venatorvenator » Fri Nov 21, 2014 9:37 pm

A while back I met two Japanese players. Life was hard for them because, as they told me, they understood only "chop tree" and "take apple", and communication was hard. It took me 10 minutes to teach them how to butcher a chicken. I believe the jp wiki saved them a lot of trouble and thanks are due to tonkyhonk for that.

But despite all that they persisted and every time I came by to visit I was amazed at how they worked. Their efficiency and space management skills were impressive. Most amazing of all was how respectful and altruistic they were. When I was around them I felt I was playing an entirely different game.

Just one of many examples: when they moved out they destroyed everything they had, including paved roads, and planted grass over everything leaving nothing behind. What kind of player is so immersed in the game that cares enough to /do/ that?

That's such a hardcore way of playing this game. Thanks for showing me this awesomeness.

True, it's not racism. It is a difference between paradigms of civilization. When slavery ended in Brazil and the country needed skilled labor to a more competitive agriculture, the government has made arrangements with several countries for a program of immigration and colonization. Came mainly Italians, Germans and Japanese. Today, while German and Italian colonies dissolved in the individualistic private sector, only the Japanese have preserved the sense of collective organization. This after they have gone through heavy repression during WWII.
Todo jogo nos ensina alguma coisa. Este aqui ensina como progredir na vida estando num mundo povoado por gente estúpida.

This is quite a weird story.

Before the brazil were even discovered, there were a Japan and his culture of Respect.
Is due to the fact that they have keept strong theyr traditions, that japan is what it is today.
Otherwise it whould be like any other globalizated country, without the sense of collective organization.

It wasn't about Japan, but about the fact these two (by chance Japanese) players persevered despite having severe difficulties with language and with the game, that they were incredibly respectful, and that they had an approach to the game that I found original and impressive. I do believe this is what makes a hardcore player hardcore, which goes against the common conception that being a pro player means being around since w2 and having 2k ua. It also shows what new players are capable of, despite the occasional posts we see bitching about drowning and animal deaths. In the end I suppose I just like creative players.
