Games like Haven and Hearth that are either free or bought

Postby dongodson081294 » Fri Dec 05, 2014 6:40 pm

Hey guys, dongodson is here and I am here to give some recommendations that are looking for similar games like this one.
Dwarfs fortress aside, there's a cool cheap game on steam called Lantern Forge. Graphics wise, looks a bit like haven. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjROWrTx4uU
If any of you guys have any recommendations please share even if the game is not free. The game looks neat, but still nothing beats haven and hearth.

Lantern Forge would be a good concept for an mmo, but its a single player game...

Ultima Online at least was a lot like H&H, fifteen years ago. Similar graphics and gameplay (except for the magic system). Not as free and open, of course, but more complex (except for the attribute system). I still fondly remember jousting with ogre lords and then talking to people who wouldn't believe I'd defeated them (without using magic) afterward.

Disclaimer: I haven't played UO in 15 years and I hear they have added ninjas and samurai during that time. You have been warned. Also, private servers exist, but are illegal, so that is the end of this sentence.

Yeah, illegal, but the run uo server have been relased in a new version, so probably the "illegal" servers are not so much a problem. (and are the only reason why people still plays uo. They do a lot of underground marketing!)

Some of the illegal server have added farming and buildings too, but often the lag was bad due this, so i suggest to give a look to the bright new original server. I have to try it too, soon.
Uo had the best server for a LONG time, talking about code. And the game was the first sandbox, hardly reached today. Pure love.
The graphic, tought, is... ... well... ... playable. Usefull. But not "nice".
Meh.
15 years old game can have a broken detail, afterall. XD

I concur. There didn't seem to be much combat, either. Not sure whether I want to try it.

Unreal World. http://unrealworld.fi/ Single player wilderness survival set in medieval period. There was a version free for a while (not sure if it still is). i see it's up for voting on Steam Greenlight right now.

If you're just looking for a great crafting game, try A Tale in the Desert. http://www.atitd.com/ Under new management since 4/2014. No idea if this will help revitalize the player base or not, but last time I was playing it, the game was slowly dying off. There's a complete lack of combat, but lots of competition.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
