Jewelry: magic or placebo?

Postby the_portals » Sun Feb 01, 2015 4:08 pm

A few of you may remember these "Hologram bracelets"

Supposedly, they would increase your athletic ability, when in reality they were just shiny pieces of metal glued onto some rubber. Meanwhile in Haven, you have jewelry that makes you smarter, more studious, a better fighter, and so on. So, that begs the question, do these pieces of jewelry make your stats better with magic, or are they placebos that make your character think their stats are improved?

Good point... but it's just a game, it doesn't have to be real.
The Lord of sneaking, the silent steps of paws, fast as a bird, and as smart as a advanced human... this is what a Fox is and what it will always be.

Placebos? PEH! Bob dole can wear any assortment of stylish rings and necklaces and gain attributes.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I'm firmly in the placebo camp.

You do realize this "magical thinking" of the placebo effect has not been accurately documented as of yet and thus puts it in the "magic" category? :P One day when we can fully explain it, it'll fall into the "science" category and we will be able to fully exploit it, but for now, believers will believe. (I'm just trying to be funny here. Sometimes the joke works, sometimes it falls flat on its face.)
