As for a village I think I will avoid joining one for now just because I am so new to the game and it's macanics, I would just end up being a drag on the other players resources so until I have something to offer I will stumble around, hit my head and learn from my mistakes...unless someone feel up to running a school for new players such as myself

Almost everything i've learned since I started playing has been on the IRC, FORUMS, and mostly importantly the WIKI.

Best of luck to ya.

What sort of skills is it best to progress to at the very beginning? There are just so many to look through. I am leaning towards hunting first just so that I have a way to get food as well as bones (which seem to be needed for a few things like the bone saw) and then maybe Carpentry? I'm not sure. I read fishing is better learned later on as you need quite a few bits to start.

Personally I think the easiest way to start is to acquire the skills needed to build a log cabin. http://havenandhearth.wikia.com/wiki/Log_Cabin

Then get hunting and find rabbits, wait till they stop moving, move as close as possible to them. right click them (given you have a 2x2 open inventory space)

Once you do that you can "wring neck" and get meat, bones, and rabbit fur which can be used as leather.

Farming is the next step usually to acquire food, but there are many other ways... now if only the damn server could come back online.

So for that method I should learn Carpentry, Stone Working (for the base) as well as Foraging > Farming to get the land ploughed for the cobbles. Then I should build a fence and then work on the Hunting skill. That at least sounds like a plan.

The Will to Power will also be a must so I can stake my claim too?

Did i miss anything?

Make sure you increase running speed to Run before you try to right click otherwise rabbit might escape you

Hunting>Catch Rabbits>Dry fur
Cloth Making>Craft Bunny Slippers

Never get knocked out of your shoes again (at least until you're ready to fight)

That sounds pretty good. Also, you should start adjusting your Beliefs. full Peaceful gives +100% to Learning Ability (effects LP gained), full nature is good if you want to be a farmer, but if you ever want to do mining you'll have to adjust back to Industry. Don't touch the Tradition/Change slider for now. As you make changes to the other sliders, Change will increase automatically. This will give you a bonus to your Learning Ability. Later on when you begin PvPing you'll probably want to move Tradition/Change towards Tradition, so that if you get killed you can reincarnate your old character with no skill loss.

You only need the desire to create, the rest will follow.

Thanks everyone, it is really nice to get such a welcome. Well till the server is back up I will spend my time working out what I will do to make the best of my in game time.

***************

In resent news things have been going great. I have a lovely little forest log house built and filled with cupboards and while I have a log pole fence up at the moment I am working towards getting a Palisade, it is just a pity that my well was on the wrong side of the cliff or that would be perfect. There is a mine really close to me yet I have not had chance to explore it yet so it might be dud. I managed to find an abandoned farm on a heath with a rune actually saying to take what you like - thank the gaming gods they had lots of flax, one pumpkin and some grapes so I even have a few crops growing now. Around that same area is a big herd of Mouflon and Auroch so I may try and work towards taming though that is a long ways off. There is a swamp both to the north and South of me so it is easy find leeches and past the northern swamp is a lovely lake where i can get good quality clay (I have a clay cauldron now) best of all there is already a Kiln built there lol. A grassland to the west of me holds hazelnut and apple trees along with chickens for any feathers I need.

All in all I have found a lovely little spot to set up camp. I so far have only see one other person and they were sleeping at the time (I left them a prezzy in their basket as well as a dreamcatcher by their bed) but I might find more people as I get used to the area and venture out further. I will see if I can get some pictures up soon to.
