I like the idea of an actual community sitting on the RoB. I lived right next to the current one for a couple of days and didn't get griefed at all.
I even lived there during the initial goonrush and although it was pretty hectic with people running everywhere, I didn't get griefed, they didn't chop down my trees, or steel my gear or anything.
I had no wall and no claim, people are just generally pretty respectful.

Also, if there was a large community right there then your stuff would probably be safer because there'd be more eyes on the noob spawn.

Not necessarily, they might just allow villages to open up their idols for public spawning, which escapes the whole problem. Regardless, I'm sure whatever radius they use for the effect we can just build on the edge of.

Well that's just what Jorb told me and what i suggested Jorb. He didn't like the idea of players managing the RoB.
Don't take my word for it though.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

You know, I've heard a lot about this map change. One thing I haven't heard about it, however, is the projected date of transfer. When's it supposed to happen? I understand if there isn't an exact date, but will it happen within the week? The month? Before 2012?

More on-topic, I'd personally like to see a few NPC's with actual functions near the RoB. Might be nice to have an NPC community there, perhaps with more buildings. A player community might be appropriate slightly further out, but I somewhat like the scattered settlements feel.

Regarding the RoB, a friend of mine made the following suggestion, which I quite like:

Every time you want to learn a new skill, you need to go and interact (right-click) with the RoB to 'receive' the skill from the gods.

Teaching could be made possible, but at a somewhat higher LP cost. This would help keep the world revolving around the RoB, maintain its importance as a social/gathering/market place as well.

Several(2-3) weeks.

I just noticed something about the title...
Hey, the sparks of the tempest
are burning you, too.
Surprise.
