I didn't find the game boring when I first joined (May 31st, says the profile) and apart from ShockedFrog, there was very little griefing. Hell, ShockedFrog only griefed one settlement.

This isn't to say I do not like the PvP elements. They definitely add to the game; but no, they are not necessary for the game to be fun.

Oh, right: There will be economic conflict once mines are limited and resources broadened and localized.

So they trade since they both have materials exclusive to them. Wheres the conflict?

Keeping those resources to yourself. Getting a better deal, haggling. There is always the chance that they will simply NOT trade with you if they don't need anything you happen to have. And then other settlements may place an embargo on them because of their actions. Yeah, there's plenty of room for conflict.
i guess they never miss huh

You forget that this place is full of carebears, no conflict will ever happen, and the few people who actually try to spice things up will most likely get called griefers and be shunned by everyone else =\

Well, if someone went out and started insulting people/attacking people and stealing/breaking things, what would happen to them?
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I don't really care to spend time getting ranging, so in the future if you're beating me up, would you kindly leave a note or a runestone stating who you are and what your grievance is. So far I've stolen random junk of only moderate value, but I would find it interesting to know who gets so upset about teeth, capes, meat, or cake. And also, if you can leave the hearthfire so any collection of runestones stays in one locale, that'd be cool. I just wind up picking up a dream on the way out everytime, anyways.

i summoned you cause you had stolen from a friend of me who, btw, is totally new to the game. he cant do much more than fishing and baking.
and you had your hearthfire ->right<- next to him. thats brave in a way, maybe a bit stupid (no offense) and made my tracking quite easy. youre hearthfire is gone anyways. i wouldnt have tracked you if you had stolen some fish from me, but i dont want you to steal from my newb friend.

/edit
i have to correct myself, you probably didnt steal anything but you certainly threw his fish on the ground. now its dirty
anyways, i didnt do you no harm. take care.

If you shoplift and get caught the owner won't say it's fine to leave because you just took something of low value. He'll call the cops and they will deal with you.

But really, give us one good reason to not go after people that stole stuff. If something gets stolen it's a nice change from daily routine to search and destroy.

And it seems that most people that use the word "carebear" are the people that care the most and generally whine the most.
The ones who see things differently.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

That's not what he said- he didn't say anything about getting killed, which it IS fair to be pissed over because its a broken mechanic (dont give me the stupid alpha thing, we are all well aware this is an alpha and already done the motions.) He just said because they use an in game mechanic that allows you to do something, you will get shunned and neglected by everyone else. And not just in-character, and that's stupid: people act like you're a griefer or cheater for using what the game allows you to do. Now granted, they do abuse alts but what else are they supposed to do when ranging is hideously overpowered?

Hide goods in a container in the game world. You can't track those down with ranging, but it still leaves the goods slightly vulnerable to other thieves if nothing else. Simply making the goods disappear from the world feels a bit cheaty to me. And stop using alt hordes to thieve. Yeah, sure, ranging is broken and it will get you killed. But if you go for full tradition death is just nuissance, and you can steal a fair amount of stuff before you're caught. Then in another 40 hours you can get full tradition again and do it all again.

Well, if someone steals from you, you'd be angry to, and even more so when your revenge will result in nothing but the death of an alt that is simply replaced AND leaves you open for death. Plus, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't destroy/drop/steal everything while they were at it. It takes a lot more work to make something than it does to steal it; and what are the victims of said criminals supposed to do when stolen items are practically irrecoverable?

Right now, especially after the update, both thieving and ranging are flat out impractical, Loftar will fix it soon hopefully. We just have to bear with it for now.

And you're saying that being able to rob a town naked is not hideously overpowered? Although "fixed" for the moment, this has been a problem for a long time.
