You can do that same thing with a mini palisade for bears. But now.. Bears rarely even get past my defense.

You can up your MM and per in a short time frame if you stay busy and play a marathon session, then you can wack them! They will still get ya if they are hidden behind some thing and you happen upon them by chance. Keep the sling equipped and some stones in inventory always, don't freak out if that happens, if you run from an attack all your defenses drop and your a toasted little noob.
Use that trap you made on a higher level boar and work up your survival so you can get some good skin's some leather for armor, or try and trade for some chain mail or other armor. Once you got some soak they will not be able to get past it and you can just wack them.

At that level and whtout any armour i advice you to go river hunting just standing in the undeep water and slinging everything thats close enof to the river.

Airlocks work both on boars, and if with a palliside/brick wall, humans too.
