Maybe you should lower the speed that they run as they get more damaged.

it was definetly not fun chasing a bear running away after I hit it once.

I do not think think this change works well. Animals will run away after being hit once for a tiny fraction of their total hit points. Foxes actually run faster than the player and cannot be hit unless the player is sprinting which is an incredible stamina drain. Animals will run right through the invisible walls on the edge of the map, and I have had several foxes run right over impassable ledges. They will also aggro the player and immediately begin running away. De-aggroing an animal to get it to stop resets any LP from combat.

I haven't tested extensively - I chased a rabbit, shot a few chickens (cackling with glee the whole time), and began stalking the forests in hopes of a boar or some deer to menace. Cue being attacked from behind by a bear I didn't see at first because it's a delightfully moonless night. After dashing to safety, I pincushion him as normal until he hits the 'enraged' state.

Bear flips the fuck out.

Bear starts running away like a tiny coward.

Bear hits tree. Bear cannot work how to go around tree.

Bear gets cut down by hail of arrows.

Bear becomes XP and delicious sausage.

I suspect that part in the middle may be a bug of some sort. I also noticed that I got slightly less XP than usual, but that may be because it was an L8 bear. Since combat relations didn't time out, now that I think about it, that's probably the case. I also noticed that I used quite a few more arrows than usual (to the tune of 50% more) to take down higher-level bears. Has Marksmanship also been nerfed a smidge with this update?

Are you guys kidding me? Hunting with your bare hands or your battle ax is ridiculous!

Let's see them try to outrun ARROWS.

Now this is what I'm talking about. I knew you'd come through for us Jorb and Loftar!

Try saying that when you hit for 137 damage on full peaceful. Image

I'm guessing this new running mechanic is causing pathway errors which is crashing the servers somehow. phiks pl0x
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

This is cool. Might have to adjust the values a bit so big stuff doesn't run after one hit. Hopefully Stealth will allow us to sneak up on animals.

Killing easy foxes remains easy - a level 1 fox running through my camp died in 3 hits, and didn't run effectively. That was on my highest level fighter; a lesser character (who normally takes longer on level 1 foxes) found them a nuisance. Both characters were using unarmed, and didn't bother with any fancy combat-initiating maneuvers. I haven't tried anything but foxes and rabbits - attacks of opportunity while working on other things. Like others, I had targets run across ravines; fortunately they didn't stay aggro to me, so this phenomenon won't prevent logging off.
