You dont do as much grievous damage and you don't get the shield option for the added defense.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

im going to go nomad. and by nomad, i mean only keep the stuff that i can either carry or wear. set up camps when i stop wandering. by "camp" i mean a leanto, a spruce bed, and a fire.
if i decide to get a wagon, i will carry alot of camp supplies in there, a camp kit, a bed, maybe 1 or torchposts.
but i will def always wander, maybe stop by a town to trade for something to help me on my journey, or some good food, or something.
i really need to find a good signature
