theres also an IRC which can be utilised for asking questions.

in regard to item quality ratings, I have been thinking about this for so long. The better the smithy you are, the better chance of making "Awesome Plate Mail"

I wouldn't mind it if players carried over a character inventory or two, but I know for a fact that there are fleets of alt vaults out there stuffed to the brim with duped steel, silk and wrought -- which I don't like. There's also a fair amount of ranger gear made before we changed craft requirements to include silk. At the same time we're looking at introducing an item quality rating, and that pretty much means a complete item reset whether we like it or not.

It could be argued that it really doesn't matter if people bring stuff over, so we might decide to just let you go crazy.

Jury is still out. Sway me in your direction.

If you do not clear inventories, I will be able to create upwards of 30 layers of brick after the reset using duped items.
Also I can outfit every goon in a merchants robe and rangers set with a battle axe.

J&L: My census had a question that you might find useful- I asked to what degree players would be willing to loose items. Surprisingly, it was very close to a third each for "Start Anew", "Reincarnate at full tradition", and "Keep items". The exact details are now available.
Surprise.

Eh. I'd like to keep my stuff - at least what I've got equipped, preferably a few blocks of cast to get some start-up items (anvil, cauldron, etc.) and whatnot. Of course, that's going to be abused to just throw in a flood of guys with alt vaults that can't really be prevented (an apparently incredibly popular phenomenon that I've never seen a good reason to use, possibly because I've already got a layered defense system of bears and brick walls and have just been darn lucky). It also depends somewhat on things like mine rarity, etc. as to how much it inconveniences me. I'm also don't feel anywhere near reasonably safe at the prospect of having to wander about sans-armor while the entire population is jammed into one tiny area like the RoB. Granted, that may just be paranoid fear as everybody else is going to be naked too. Then again, I imagine there are a lot of people with unarmed specialization...

I think an early influx of raw materials wouldn't be that catastrophic in the long run, but I may be underestimating how many no-name alt characters are just stuffed to the brim with metal. The matter of high-end equipment seems to be pretty much along the same arguments as resetting a character's numeric values - sure, they're more powerful, but is that a bad thing? (as we've seen opinions on that vary wildly).

I think ultimately, I'd like at a bare minimum for equipped items to come across. Inventory would be nice, but if the impact of alt-vaults is deemed to much I won't cry over it (literally or figuratively). All this is null and void if there's an item quality system implemented, in which case I would gladly give up everything I owned.

Yes, we've seen that, and it was quite interesting. The thing is that, while we do feel pain with those who've acquired things honestly, it seems that we'll have to do an item reset just to get rid of all the alt vaults and duped items and stuff like that... I don't really know what a good alternative might be.

There's also the issue of the quality factor -- speaking of which:

Not really. Or, well, I could probably write some ugly hack for that, but the inventory format isn't really extensible enough to arbitrarily extend with new attributes of various kinds, and all the ugly data transition hacks that I've added here and there are one of the things I'd really like to take the map reset as an opportunity to get rid of.

Loftar is here, I believe, referring to Peter's survey, a great initiative that has not gone unnoticed. :)

The problem is that due to not being made by the devs, was greatly ignored by a large part of the population.
For example you can see everyone in Pinevalley did it, while Bros, Goons and FP are greatly under represented.

I agree, that survey sample is hardly representative.

Well aware of the statistical deficiencies it, statistically speaking, should be suffering from.

Actually, unless someone who as far as I know didn't play much at all took the survey too, someone either chose to say they live at Pinevalley even though they don't, or someone from Pinevalley somehow double submitted their results.
