I think a lot don't even attempt making steel. I think its good that its not easy to fuel it and 12 hours is a pretty long time. Once your exams are over you'll probably be able to do it no problem.

I've done it as a hermit, just refill it right before you go to bed, when you wake up, when you leave for work/school, and when you get back. You don't even need to do it that often, I just like to keep it topped off in case I am not able to get to it as often as I expect to.

I made steel as a hermit last world easy enough. As said earlier, just top up the fuel before bed, in the morning and after work. I would recommend making a huge batch of steel all at once so you can just top them all up at the same time and not have to worry about doing it again for a long time.

If you leave you character logged out holding fuel ready to go, it hardly impacts on real life at all to quickly log on, refuel and head off.

Well before I continue, I want to ask a mod to move this to the Inn since not as many people are having problem as I thought and it will become more of me asking for advice, bleh I suck!

I think what somewhat sucks for me is that I need to use charcoal since all of my sticks will be too low Q for the steel crucible but if I turn any form of blocks into charcoal it should be enough.

or blocks, either way work.
I make steel by putting it filled at about 23:00 my time, and refill it in the morning before i go to school :)

I've always gotten confused on the relative tick worth of blocks, boards, and charcoals... Anyone convert that for me into branches?

And steelmaking seems like a painful process but definitely something I'd want to try (as a hermit) once I finally find iron... XD

I would actually have to gather a lot more logs for charcoal than if I use blocks (I am using charcoal because the kiln I have is better than my board quality.). Also by turning blocks into charcoal, I only loose out on 1 tick of fuel. That being said, is it acceptable to use a macro to fuel steel?

The only things which effect steel quality now are the crucible's quality, the quality of the wrought you are using, and the quality of the charcoal in the slots. The fuel you use is completely irrelevant.

You ought to be filling a couple palisade signs near the crucibles, then taking out 4 blocks, turning them into branches, and filling with those. Doing so means refueling them is a couple minute process at best, and makes it considerably easier to fit in. 12 hours is a pretty long time, especially when you only have to remember to spend 2-3 minutes twice a day.
